i forgot how crazy busy this forum used to be

Forums in general are dead - sad to say. I can't think of any that are "growing"

No, I don't consider Reddit forums....

All about dat social media self gratification e-peen stuff.
 
5 times in few minutes? LOL.

Back in its hay day (2000~05), if you pressed F5 once, off-topic's first page would be filled with new threads.

People posted 'bump' and 'ttt' (to the top), just to bump their thread back to the front for visibility because traffic was so busy. Mods imposed the limit of minimum of 4 or 8 hrs or something before you can self-bump your own thread.
 
Most people back in the days were on these forums because they needed help or advice building their own computer or advice concerning something computer related!
The reality is the days of building your oen computer are really gone! It`s amost cheaper and eailer to buy a pre-built computer!
With the demise of this lost art....so goes the rest of the forum!
Sure people still build there own computer, but the truth is there is nothing wrong with these forums!
You can still get fantastic information.
Back in the day there were very few real great sites to go to for information!
That has changed quite a bit!
These forums are still fun and alive at times and freakingly hilarious!!
 
Reddit is basically a giant forum and that's massive so wouldn't say forums are dead. Specialist forums though.....not doing so well.

Plus it seems people prefer to watch Youtube videos for answers than read. Personally I rather read for a min and get what I want rather than watch a 10min video.
 
Reddit can suck a chode. I will admit there's a lot of info to be found there, though.

Yeah the forums of back in the day were crazy with traffic. It was awesome. :cryingcat:
 
It feels like I spent 2006-2010 doing nothing but hitting refresh and getting all new stuff every time. Those were my prime lurking years before even making an account.
 
I read a lot on reddit but there are always 1000+ posters in any subreddit that you don't really ever know anyone. Anandtech was smaller even in it's hayday than a lot of /r
 
This forum has been on a steady decline ever since they created all of these stupid subforums after the "change of culture" crap happened. There was no need to create subforums.

And then they created even MORE subforums after there had been a huge decline. fracturing the traffic and content even more.

Now ATOT can go like 30-45 minutes without a reply or new thread during peak work hours, and ATPN is nothing but a trolljob circle jerk of two extremes.

Surely nobody wants to sit through someone's heavily-accented mumbling (and everyone is heavily accented to someone!) or attempt at sounding like a zany game-show host, when they could just quickly read a bit of text? I hate it when I look for answers to some technical problem and all I find are youtube videos (as you say, taking far more time than necessary to explain something). I assume it's just about monetizing things - that making things into youtube videos is an easy way to try and get paid for people viewing them? Or do some people just want to play at being television presenters?
 
You think this is bad, I read an article the other day saying that by 2030 (or something like that) there will be more users on FB that are dead (as in 6 feet under) than there will be living FB users.
