I forget my BIOS Password, is there anyway I can open my BIOS setting? *** Please help me real quick, so desperate***

Hi, I want to add another hdd and it doesn't detech my harddrive. So I need to go to the BIOS setting to detech that first. The problem is my girlfriend forget the BIOS password so I can't go to the BIOS setting. Is there anyway I can open the BIOS setting or depassword the BIOS setting? The motherboard is an old one and I believe it's as ASUS motherboard. The speed is for pentium 133. Since I need to install this real quick, can someone help me out on this one? Thansk in advance.

See if you clear the CMOS, that should restore the BIOS defaults and allow you to get back into it. If you can't clear the CMOS, you can also unplug the PC and remove the little battery on the motherboard for about 5 minutes which causes the BIOS to revert to default.

More info on the board would be helpful. Some boards have a jumper to clear, on my P3B-F there are two solder points to short marked CLRTC. You can also clear the CMOS by removing the battery for a few moments and then replacing it.

there should also be jumpers on the motherboard that you can short out to reset bios

It has to be one; otherwise, how will the CMOS have power to retain the settings when the PC is unplugged?

Quite often you might find it hidden under an expansion card or some other hardware. Anyway, I'm off to sleep now; will ckeck back tomorrow morning. I hope you'll fix your girlfriend's PC by then.

some older motherboards didn't have the regular watch battery on board and instead had a real time clock. the thing serves the same purpose except it isn't replaceable. if you do have the rtc then just cut one of the leads to allow the bios to reset and then solder it back when done.
