I think people must have some serious soft spots (possibly fond childhood memories) for Sean Connery et al to claim that Daniel Craig makes a terrible/the worst Bond.

There have been a few decent Bond movies, but none of them were made that way by the lead actor's performance, and most of them are pretty lame action flicks.

I think he is the best actor to play Bond by a fairly large margin, and while I understand your critique I don't share your view. I like this iteration of Bond, though it is admittedly a gritter version than we are used to. Actually if you go back and watch Dr. No (the first film), it's much more reminiscent of the Craig movies - very dark and pared-down. To me, the Moore films are maybe the worst - they just got so cartoonish and goofy - so clearly I have a darker sensibility than some people.

That's the thing people don't get--Craig's interpretation is more in-line with Ian Flemming's characterization of Bond, and is very similar to what Connery did in Dr No--slapping everyone around, not giving a shit, barely charming.

Ian Flemming's Bond was pretty much an asshole

Dr No is very different from the other Connery Bond flicks.

I like Craig a lot as Bond and I also think he is one of the best--but I also agree that these films are trying too hard to be Bourne. The problem is, they actually are trying to compete with Bourne so I understand that, but I think it is misguided.

I am very glad to see the clown show antics that littered the pathetic Roger Moore flicks go away, however. (Though I still think his first 3 were good, the clowniness rather limited in those--pretty much isolated to the hilariously racist J W Pepper)

That may be, but Craig does everything in a monotone and is completely uninteresting. Even when Connery was being the "darker" Bond, he still gave off some charisma and charm which Craig is completely devoid of.

The Moore ones were super goofy, but as I said before I still kind of like some of them. I would rather watch the Dalton ones than the last two Craig ones; of course I still think Casino Royale is one of the best, but not because of Craig. It's just a better story and is better directed, plus it has Mads Mikkelsen and Eva Green.

I would watch a 24 hour infomercial selling vacuums, if Eva Green were the one selling them.

Did you miss the part where a train comes flying through a perfectly timed/perfectly placed bomb hole and magically hovers over Bond's head? Factor in the backstory of the bad guy knowing he'd be captured on a particular day, taken to a particular location, placed in a particular holding cell, freed at a particular time, chased through the street by Bond, believed he lost Bond during the chase, and then detonating a pre-placed bomb just at the right time... ya, no clown antics there.

I hate being "that" guy, but I really think the CGI in this film was some of the worst in recent history. There were several scenes where I said to myself "seriously?" due to bad CGI.

that isn't clown antics. that's just dumb, implausible shit.

clown antics is watching Bond inflate a Gondola to the sound of a slide whistle (yes, this shit happened in those flicks), Jaws falling in love with a young swedish chick because she has braces. Crap like that.

...did I mention that they used a slide whistle as sound effects in those?

I liked Skyfall.

Yes, it is different from the SPECTRE-type movies of the past. But you could not seriously do one of those today.

The cinematography was also amazing.

Apparently you missed the goofy overblown chase scene from CY.

Suggested definition for 'Forum Dementia'?: When a point has already been addressed yet is raised again in precisely the same way it had been addressed already.

And while this scene is also mind-numblingly stupid:

It's still not in the same ball park as that one with Roger Moore in.

PS: I think you meant 'CR'.

Thank you! For a moment I thought I was the only one thinking this. I certainly can't see Craig as Bond, he doesn't have the charm for it, he's like a boy with a suit. Action hero - definitely, Bond - not much.

I also think the intro music was way off for the last three movies, perhaps less so in Casino Royale.

It's called nuances. It's how most people talk. Watch a movie you think is good. Now super-impose that in real life. Doesn't work does it. Now, everything you thought was good is now ridiculous.
Maybe you should go back to animated Sorkin monologues with lots of movement and peaky voice modulation.

You have no idea what you are talking about. Citing a Bond film as a reference point for nuanced acting and dialogue is downright hilarious.

Nuanced dialog, not acting.
Now go snort some coke or something.

Ok.

FWIW 3 of my top 4 films of 2013 so far have minimal, but very realistic dialogue. Not sure what point you are trying to make.
