There is not much choice these days. The manufacturers aren't making good CRTs, and the consumers aren't buying them obviously. Buck it up and deal with it. Get something good enough to get by in the meanwhile that's not too expensive, and stop comparing them with CRTs. Avoid looking at CRTs if at all possible once you get an LCD, and pat yourself on the back on how sleek and modern, sharp and not as bad as they once were they look. And if you didn't know how to adjust the refresh rate, you can add "flicker free" to that list.

Actually, you're not supposed to 'adjust' LCD monitors for at least 20 minutes. I could prove this, but just take my word for it... please! :D

I'm sure that some good info, VinDSL, I believe Creig was specifically talking about liquid51 checking out CRTs and not LCDs.

i took the plunge to LCD 2 years ago from a sweet dell 17" trinitron crt to an envision 17" lcd (no dvi, just vga). although the blacks werent deep and the colors were off by some, the lcd was pretty good (its actually one of the better monitors at the time that looked decent through vga) but not as good as the crt i felt. the space savings, weight, and just the brightness (it was quite a bit brighter than the crt) made it for me. i just recently jumped to the dell 2407WFP and let me tell you, its one hell of a monitor. for the price/performance, not many monitors in its class can touch it. if it had hdmi, i think it would be the best overall monitor.

i love my 2407. i cant imagine going back to crt.

Well, I picked up an fw900, and aside from the fact that I discovered a couple minor things that warrant me taking it back for a swap :( , I do love this monitor. Fortunately I live very close to the lady I bought it from, so returning it isn't an issue. But I don't look forward to carrying this thing back into her basement, spending another large chunk of time down there, and then hauling another one back up.

Text isn't quit as crisp as it was on the lcd (by no means is it blurry or out of focus), but it's much sharper than my 17" crt at 1280x1024. Despite what VinDSL said, my lcd looked fantastic. Text was never a series of black dots. It was insanely sharp, and there was no 'ghosting' to speak of. Just a general loss of focus look when things move. I know I've said that a hundred times, but I think everyone thinks I must have adjusted it improperly. It was flawless as lcds go. I did side by sides. And none of them could possibly compare to this fw900. I don't run multiple monitor setups, or require color accuracy for print, etc. So if color is not spot on, I will never notice. Gaming is ridiculous on this monitor. The experience blows away any lcd I've seen. Or crt for that matter.

I'm sure there's some of you (a lot of you) that would hate this monitor as compared to your lcd. It weighs half as much as me at almost 100lbs, it takes up all of my desk space (although, I'm glad to have space back on the sides of the monitor :p), it's USED for crying out loud :p. But, especially after seeing it, I could never go lcd. Someone posted earlier that they wish they could have the anal portion of their brain removed so they weren't so picky. I wish the same sometimes. But I'll be using this crt until then.
