I finally had a Voodoo Donut a few weeks ago

We have a few bakeries around here that make amazing donuts, but they are more expensive and not worth the drive or the extra money...then Krispy Kreme, Dunkin', and Daylight Donuts....all three of those are still very good. Krispy Kreme makes the best glazed, Dunkin makes the best cake donuts....and Daylight is pretty good because they will fill their donuts with jelly or creme only when they're ordered...so they don't get soggy.

I doubt I'd stand in line for something subpar considering there are plenty of places to get good donuts for little money...certainly not impressed by the name.

What is that supposed to be in the OP?

I would suggest adding more fiber and coffee to you diet if this is a normal occurence.

So is this like the cupcake places around here that sell their shit for like 4 bucks a cupcake and the people eat it up like it's Jesus handing out bread at the last supper? Ridiculous.

From what I remember, their pricing isn't too bad. I was just in Portland again and we ended up at Voodoo after the Sunday show at Dante's Inferno. It was perfect at the time. 😉

Disagree. I'd have to say Pok Pok wings. Still miss my lunch runs from big pink to Division.

I keep hearing about Pok Pok but have yet to go. My sis says it doesn't live up to the hype. At $9 per order I keep thinking it's overpriced Buffalo Wild Wings and the foodie trend has elevated it up to astronomical status.

Another tourist trap: Rogue beer. They're commercially successful enough (just like Voodoo) that it's all non-Oregonians care about. Try anything made by Boneyard Brewing instead. If you need a good spot to try it, try Horse Brass Pub, Rontoms, or Apex.

Couldn't agree more on both accounts- the tour at Rogue was a waste of time, and their beer just ok. I *love* boneyard beers- Hop Venom may be my all time favorite beer (maybe behind Pliney the elder but can't get that up in Seattle anymore). Luckily there are a couple beer shops in/around Seattle where I can occasionally pick up a growler of hop venom/RPM/session beers- I've not see Armored Fist yet, though I've had it once down in Portland.

I've never been to voodoo donuts and really don't have any interest to.

In my opinion the donuts are actually very sub par. But they do have crazy concoctions that you can't find elsewhere. Personally I'd rather have a really good donut than voodoo donuts.

My favorites. I get one or the other.

Mango Tango: Raised yeast doughnut filled with mango jelly and topped with vanilla frosting and Tang powder.

McMinnville Cream: Raised yeast doughnut filled with Bavarian cream with maple frosting on top and two eyeballs and a mustache.

Walked by it four or five times this past weekend and every time it had what looked like an hour-long line-up. No way I am standing in that kind of line for anything and the doughnuts coming out of there did not even look very good.

So I went to Blue Star Donuts instead and they were delicious plus I didn't have to wait.

How was your trip? Did you get to Powells?

Yes, our hotel was like half a block away. 😀 So we went multiple times.

Thanks for the recs by the way, very helpful. We hit up Deschutes twice, Rogue once (they really need to update their decor a bit), Henry's once, then some other places I can't remember right now. It's a lovely city; like a better, cheaper version of Vancouver. I'm a big fan.

Henry's has their own version of croutons: little cubes of cornbread, grilled in butter on the flat top.

Fuck. Yes.

Mmmm. I had the chicken wings and waffles with a blueberry wheat beer. Was delicious.
