I finally figured out why I "need" a dual core cpu.

I can't backup a dvd and play Psychonauts at the same time with my current config.
The game takes up all the cpu resources and the dvd burning stalls.
I just wanted to see this in print so I can justify spending all the money. Thought it might help some of you crazy bastards out, too. 😉
 
I have no idea what psychonauts is, but I suspect the bottleneck will remain in the PCI bus even with a dual cpu.






I'm never right about these things, btw. I fully expect someone to come in and explain that the PCI bus hasn't existed for 3 years now.
 
I have the urgency to surf ATOT, play WoW, burn illegal DVDs the same time, download pr0n, and play anime on my third monitor.

I'm well justify on chipping up some money for that multi purpose multi thread multi cores CPUs. Are you?
 
Use extra parts to build a second machine for ripping/file serving/and any other operations that cannot run in the background while playing a game. That is what I did.
