I finally broke down and bought a PS3.

Well since Sony is not making any more PS3 60GB models, I decided to pull the trigger on one because of its backwards compatibility. I never had a PS2 and I'm thinking about loading up on PS2 fighting games. I got it from Wal-Mart with the free remote and Warhawk so it wasn't so bad. MY main console is the 360 and I LOVE my original XBox (I wouldn't trade it for anything), so I can see the PS3 taking a backseat to all of them. But it should come in handy when the need arises for some PS2 action. And yes, it is one hell of an expensive PS2. :)

Before it takes the back seat, make sure you try out some games on it (especially Warhawk), and really give it a chance.

Hey man, I paid $500+ for this thing, so I'm definitely gonna give it a chance. :) The only other PS3 game I'm looking to pick up is Resistance: Fall of Man. And I've got to get my free 5 Blu-Ray movies too. :)

I caved and got the 60gb ps3 before they ran out also.

Currently own a PS1, was looking for an upgrade.

Had several choices:
1) 40GB - $399
2) 60GB - $499
3) 80GB - $499

Decided not to get the 80GB because I don't care for the bundled Motorstorm game and the PS2 software emulation limits the backward compatibility.

Decided on the 60GB vs the 40GB because PS2 games are quite a bit cheaper than PS3 games and I wanted to have the PS2 backward compatibility by hardware method. Plus, the extra USB ports (4 on 60GB vs 2 on 40GB) would be nice since I was going to need the ports for charging, my Logitech wireless keyboard and my Logitech GT4 steering wheel.

My primary reason for getting a PS3 was for blu-ray playback, followed by the occasional PS3 gaming and the rare PS1/PS2 gameplay.

Best buy has a 60GB bundle for $499.99 with free controller and free game (choose from 2), didn't want an extra controller now because I'd rather get a Dualshock3 controller when they come out next year to regain the rumble feature and I didn't like their game selections.

Walmart.com also has a 60GB bundle for $499.82 which gives you a free blu-ray remote and a free game (more selections, I picked RFOM but there are several nice games to choose from, better than Best Buy's choices). Have to pay shipping but still worked out to be the best deal for me. I paid $542.78 after tax and shipping. After some cash back offers, I'm expecting it to cost me just under $518.

Need to get the 5 blu-ray movies by mail-in also.

Best setup for me. I want to download the demos of the PSN and try them out. I have a blu-ray remote now to watch movies and I have Netflix so I can rent Blu-ray movies easily. Will get a Dualshock3 later when they come out so at least one controller will have rumble.

I purchased my 60GB unit with a free Heavenly Sword at Gamestop Thursday. I went into my local Hastings this afternoon, and they had the 60GB with a free Heavenly Sword and $100 mail-in rebate. I lose :(.

Nooooooooooooooo! That sucks. My bundle was $555.10 after shipping and tax. :(

Ok, now the next thing I need to pick up is a good PS2 to PS3 adapter for my PS2 controllers. Anyone know of any good ones?

There are a couple at Amazon, with owner comments listing what controllers work or don't work. Apparently nothing makes GH guitars work completely.

FYI, Sony's PS1-PS2 memory card adapter ($13-15) is handy if you want to preserve old saves, or want to go back and forth between playing on a PS3and an actual PS2 (it copies both directions).

You only need it to copy saves, the PS3 creates virtual memory cards on the hard drive instead of using real cards.

Based of Japanese history....Famous battles that actually took place in ancient Japan. So here's this giant enemy crab!

BTW, what real famous historical battle involved fighting giant crabs? I'm a little rusty on ancient Japanese history.

Dude, you should feel filthy. ;)

Well, the UPS guy should be here soon (sometime later today). We'll see how this PS3 turns out soon enough.

But those Pioneer Kuro Elites are so pretty! :D

The bad thing is I don't have time today to play with either of them, might have to wait until the weekend...curse having a job that pays for these toys!

Hope you enjoy yours. I've read many good things about the blue-ray capabilities and upscaling regular dvd's, it's just lacking a large (good) game selection currently.

I did the same exact thing today, got an 80 motorstorm bundle on the way. I feel ashamed.

too bad the only thing it will be used for in the immediate future is to play Spider-Man 3 in blue-ray.

Hey, that is the ONLY way to go for an HDTV. 150FD or bust baby!! ;)

As for the games, to be honest, I really don't have a lot of time to play them either. I still have quite a few 360 games unopened. :( However, I make my best effort to TRY and play them :)

I'm not ashamed of buying mine last week. It's a very nice system. I rented a couple of bluray movies over the weekend, and Wild Hogs has to be one of the finest transfers I've ever seen. Beautiful picture in 1080p, and a funny movie to boot.

If I could just figure out that last boss on Heavenly Sword, I'll get started on a few PS2 games :).

My only problem is that I now have way too much shit to play. Finish Heavenly Sword, start God of War, all the while playing Guitar Hero 3, and still try to fit in some Halo 3. In between all that, I'm trying to up my score in the super awesome Super Stardust HD.
