I finally broke down and bought a PS3.

congrats dude! i got in on the circuit city $500 deal on the 60GB. came with an extra controller but thats about it. this was back in the summer when the price drop was just announced. also, its pretty useful when someone has a digital camera or a usb flash drive and wants to show pics on a bigger screen, since the 60GB has a memory card reader in it. love it.

*hearts full backwards compatibility*

I did the same exact thing today, got an 80 motorstorm bundle on the way. I feel ashamed.

too bad the only thing it will be used for in the immediate future is to play Spider-Man 3 in blue-ray.

There is a lot of shame going on in this thread. :)

I'm not ashamed of buying mine last week. It's a very nice system. I rented a couple of bluray movies over the weekend, and Wild Hogs has to be one of the finest transfers I've ever seen. Beautiful picture in 1080p, and a funny movie to boot.

If I could just figure out that last boss on Heavenly Sword, I'll get started on a few PS2 games :).

My only problem is that I now have way too much shit to play. Finish Heavenly Sword, start God of War, all the while playing Guitar Hero 3, and still try to fit in some Halo 3. In between all that, I'm trying to up my score in the super awesome Super Stardust HD.
I'm ashamed because I caved and bought a Sony product. I have a DEEP hatred of Sony, and I vowed to never buy from them again.

But I just received and set up my brand new PS3. And I have to say, this is one BEAUTIFUL piece of hardware. I'm not big on people using a console as an A/V component, but this console is the FIRST I'd be proud to have in my A/V rack. It's just down right gorgeous and looks like it belongs with any other A/V component. VERY nice! I've got to give it to Sony, they don't call it Sony "Style" for nothing. They make some GREAT looking stuff.

I haven't had a chance to mess with it a whole lot, but here are some things that stuck out to me:

1. HEAT. Man, this thing blows some HOT air! It seems to run hotter than my 360 Elite.
2. Quiet. Although it does blow a lot of hot air out, it's WAY quieter than my Elite.
3. Crazy UI. The interface looks WAY too complicated. I prefer the simplicity of my 360's interface, but I'll give it a little longer to see if it grows on me. Maybe I'll have a different opinion in a few months.
4. Not big on the way the PS3 inputs characters. I like the 360's character layout better than the PS3's texting type layout. It took FOREVER to input my wireless key!
5. Heavy. This thing is quite a bit heavier than I expected.

That's really all I have. My games won't be here for another day or two, but I got this bad boy set up in record time (I think it was like 15 minutes). I REALLY like the PS3 so far, and if Sony can crank out some decent GAMES, they may have something here. Only time will tell, but in the meantime, I'll be enjoying the best of both worlds. :)

And one last thing, WTF is up with UPS dropping a $500+ box on my doorstep and leaving? WTF?!

There's an alternate keyboard you can use. I don't remember if it's qwerty or not, but you might like that better.

I've gotten quite used to the number-pad board though. Less traveling back and forth between characters.

check out kingdom of heaven, its the sweetest thing to come out of my ps3 out of all the bd movies ive watched. also the directors cut is a vast improvment over the theatrical version. a must see if you even remotely liked the theatrical version.

I bought a 40Gb this morning , came with a free 2nd controller thanks to a Dell pricematch :)

My only question is : can we download trailers of every game and movie out there? I checked what I saw and there were like 4-5 movie trailers and demos of all the old games but nothing upcoming!

FYI, Sony's PS1-PS2 memory card adapter ($13-15) is handy if you want to preserve old saves, or want to go back and forth between playing on a PS3and an actual PS2 (it copies both directions).

Yeah... just find a friend that has it. Unfortunately, none of my friends have a PS3 and people I know that have one do not have the adapter, so I had to spend the $15 for a glorified memory card slot :(.

My 360 still definitely gets more play than my PS3 though, but I don't really mind.

I might need to work on my sound system as others have described in this thread. I'm using some "old" 5.1 PC speakers :p.

I saw the 40 GB in walmart Tuesday and I was really considering buying one. I didn't, but I may get one before the end of the year. $399 is very tempting since I don't give a damn about backwards compatibility :p
