I'm sure you're talking about the proprietary browser versions and dial-up software that's used by some of the ISPs. The ISPs themselves are mostly compatible. I think it's a real mistake to install any of the proprietary crap. Much of it interferes significantly with W2K DUN, and the "branded" browsers (regardless of vendor or version) are uniformly lousy. I think you should just talk with the tech support people at a couple of ISPs and assure them that you just want the instructions for using the operating system's standard Dial-Up Networking with their nodes. Windows 2000 will be much happier, and so will you.
I use CompuServe as one of my dial-up services. Their standard software uses an AOL-dervied proprietary dial-up connector. I would not DREAM of putting one iota of their JUNK SOFTWARE on any system I own. With proper configuration and a logon script, I can use CompuServe nodes everywhere in the world with the standard DUN on my W2K notebook.
