I felt offended by a video game for the first time yesterday...

I've never been offended by video game content. In games like BF1942 I usually try to join the side that doesn't have the advantage just because it is more fun to win that way 😉 Back when I played Counter-Strike I always went terrorist for the Sig..
 
They did good things like building the Taj mahal....

Are you kidding me? The Taj was built upon the back of forced labor, at a cost that bankrupted the whole region - all for a useless, glorified tombstone for Shah Jehan's wife. The artisans who were alive upon its completion all had their thumbs cut off so as to never be able to replicate the Taj again.

Nope. Video games don't offend me. There's a difference between reality and fantasy. If you're offended, turn the stupid thing off. Easy.
 
People are just too damned sensitive for their own good. If an event that occurred nearly a millenia ago upsets you, I recommend removing your head from your arse and taking a deep breath.
 
As an educator I sympathize with you and feel this board has many members who are racially and culturally insensitive.

A proper analogy would be a video game where you play a nazi soldier who's mission is to eradicate as many helpless jews as possible. something along those lines.

As a New Zealander, I get offended when people claim all we do is have sex with sheep all night This is simply NOT true. We rest during the night. Banging sheep during the day makes us weary.

I believe they cut their entire hands off, not just the thumbs. While I don't think that was a particulary nice thing to do, you have to admit that the Taj Mahal is extremely beautiful, its even more beautiful in the inside. What pissed me off about the Taj was how the British stole the jewels that were adorned in the walls of the Taj.

Pacific Fighters is coming out soon, a new Pacific sim based on IL-2's engine.

It will be an amazing game, with awesome aircraft . . .

But I'm pretty sure the whole pearl harbor scenario will be included, with both sides playable.


In CFS3 (bad bad game compared to IL-2), you can drop nuclear bombs on Japanese cities.
 
Please... get over it... it's a fuggin game. If something as simple as that offends you, you've got a tough life ahead of you.
 
the Armenian holocaust led my Turkey occured in the first half of the 20th century which is supposed to be one of the main events that inspired Hitler who when asked what he will do when the world gets upset he said o one cares whatthe turks did to the armenians, or somethign like that.
If they created a game where you are the turks leading an attack on armenia or something yeah i would think it is very dumb but i wouldn't be offended.

thanks for mentioning, I remember playing a skirmish game and was somewhat shocked to see Russia, Libya and other countries labeled as the "bad guy", I mean, how would you feel if you are viewed as the barbaric evil-doer? Sh1t, Americans has paratroopers as specialty while Iran has atomic demo trucks? how stereotypical is that?

Maverick has a point, and by using the Pearl Harbor example he made it even more poignant so that you guys can sympathesize.


yes, I agree we shouldn't carry so much emotional baggage over a video game, after all, it is meant to entertain. We should appreciate, not bash, informative posts like this.
