Listen, both are acceptable spellings. They are both slang, and it doesn't matter how you spell it as it conveys the same message. I myself use holmes, and I pronounce it with the l. The homes spelling seems weird as I read it as a place of residence, but regardless, both are fine.

Each is on at least several lyric sites. The claim that you found 5 lyric sites with the same spelling is pointless- ever heard of cut and paste? Not everyone individually types in the lyrics.

And, it should be pointed out that many of those hits are using the word "homes" as in "there are 10 homes on that block", not as in "yo homes".

Google searching on the warnerbros site does not reveal any mention of their spelling.

As far as the argument that homes is short for homey or homeboy, there's no compelling reason that the spelling needs to be the same. Tom is short for Thomas, Susan becomes Sue or Suzy or Suzy, (I'm sure there are plenty of examples)

If you change the search to
Bel-air Fresh Prince "yo homes" -holmes 567 hits
Bel-air Fresh Prince "yo holmes" -homes 688 hits

If you just search
"you holmes" -homes 33,400
"you homes" -holmes 18,600

edit: and bsobel has it correct: it's Holmes. The people who say it's "Homes" would probably axe you a question too.
