I feel like people have a very selfish interpretation of religion.

It is quite apparent when people pray. If God has a plan for everything, why are you asking him to change it? Especially if it benefits you and puts someone else at a disadvantage. If anything, God gave you the tools to succeed and it's up to you to excel.

It is also selfish to think that God is watching over you at all times, guiding you to make the best decisions and keeping you safe. If you believe that, then why does he let millions of children and adults for of disease and hunger every year? He created them, and they most certainly aren't sinners. Child cancer patients are the biggest example of this. Some of them are the best people to live on this earth and he makes them live through 7 years of extreme pain and suffering before"taking them back," devastating entire families for life.

And people have the audacity to think "God is good."

God is at His most awesome when He sends tsunamis to kill hundreds of thousands of innocent people at once.

yeah it doesn't make any sense whatsoever.

But when you're taught as a kid, it's difficult to let go.

People are mostly stupid so they stick to it. Religion is illogical but people don't spend the 5 minutes it takes to look at it objectively. There also is a great deal of confusion with the difference between faith and organized religion and people don't understand that they can have faith without the other.

The discussion section had that going for it but the stupidity of people in those threads is no better in that section.

OP, your post basically boils down to the question: "why do bad things happen to good people"

hit up a search engine and read what others have to say.

This thread belongs in OT or DC

Anyone who questions religion is a troll?

You have a nice padlock on your faith I guess.

LMAO!!! Religion threads/questions in here are always guaranteed to start the same ole argument therefore it's nothing more than a troll. I'm not religious but I respect the rights of those who chose to follow/practice the religion of their choice or the right of those who chose to not follow a religion.

You have a very warped and inaccurate view of religion and I am assuming Christianity in particular based on your oblique references above. None of what you say is at all accurate and is a gross misinterpretation of what Christianity is all about.

And as others have said, this is a DC/OT discussion not P&N.

Oh yes, one more thing. This thread regardless of where it ends up will end as badly as all other religion threads do.

People are just smart enough to do truly stupid things, but not smart enough to realize it.

And people have the audacity to think "God is good."

You are full of anguish and pain because the universe seems to be cold and indifferent to all your wishes that beauty love and truth governed everything. But, do you see, it is because God is within you that you experience that feeling. God is looking for Himself. Do not look to bathe yourself in the love of God, but to release that love within you. God does not exist in the universe out there but through the love you can feel. You seek because you are what you have been looking for. Suffer and you will not suffer. The world is without meaning and the need for meaning is as meaningless as everything else. If you reach the end of your rope, surrender and let go, the love you wish for will be replaced by the love that awakens within you. God is your own being.

Woodwork. Most of you guys were in it.

I don't see any actual rebuttal besides "you're wrong" and "I don't like threads like this."

God is as good or as bad as you want it (or them) to be. You always get exactly the god you want, exactly when your want it, and if you don't want one, it goes away. Gods are nothing if not accommodating.

God in control of every action and decision you make renders the 10 commandments moot. How can you be responsible for sins if God made you do it. That seems to have been made up recently just like the no meat except fish/seafood on Fridays.

Not all theists think or pray for selfish reasons to their particular deity and concentrating on the ones that do isn't going to resolve your issue or theirs.

Families who've suffered the loss of a young child due to cancer or other ailments do not always choose to be or remain devastated. Prayer/faith/et al are all coping mechanisms.

To those who feel the thread should be moved, it's probably more effective to contact the mods then to enter the thread and bitch about it not being Politics or News.
