Yeah, as long as you have a halfway decent quad core (which is pretty much any quad core I suppose) you should be set with GTA IV.
 
I can't believe how expensive they still are. The 4870 dropped so quickly in price after it was released. The 5870 is still $400 on average (385 is the cheapest on newegg right now).
 
Aren't you going about this completely ass-backwards?

Play games that you enjoy. Buy the hardware necessary to run said games.
