Okay, so I live here, on the left side of the street. I called up a local pizza place, they said they will only deliver up Shelbourne St (the vertical street on the map) up to Cedar Hill Crossroad, which I live across from.

Apparantly they have some map software that they punch your address into, and it tells them if you're within their "bubble" of delivery, and they said I wasn't. I explained that I was literally across the street, they refused. I said to put in a different address, then just have the driver come to my place, and I'd tip a little more, no go. I then offered to walk across the street to meet them. They said that if it wasn't my address, they couldn't deliver there, for "safety reasons".

I almost considered finding a building with a utility closet and having them deliver there, but it's not worth it. Worst part is no decent pizza places open until 4pm around here, so I had to wait to find out this little nugget of information.

Could, but they're a bit aways, about 7.5miles or so. Not a long drive, but I'd have to take the bus, and it simply isn't worth it. She offered me 10% off to come pick it up, I just told her no thanks and called a closer place with slightly crappier pizza.
 
No one delivered to where I lived for ages, even though all the surrounding developments got service.

I picked up a pizza one day, then asked to talk to the manager, and thanked him for how good the service was and placed a piece of paper with my address and a 50$ in his hand (no not discreetly or in a sauve handshake) and then I got delivery anytime after that when I called up. To keep it coming even after the manager has changed I tip big. The bill is usually 13, I just give them a 20 and let them keep the change. I like delivery as you can see, and I always get my pizza fast, whether it is a big football game or what not going on.

How did I know to do this? I had a friend in the Pizza business who told me that people do this to sucess.
 
Yeah when I worked at pizza hut, they were pretty strict about the area. The computer system wouldn't even let you put in any new streets 😛
 
Tonight my delivery driver called my cell, saying he's downstairs and to please open the door. I hit the door button and nothing happened. I should have just looked out the window, but instead I went downstairs and when I got to the bottom I called his cell back:

"Dude, look behind you."

He was across the street.
 
In my old house I had the same problem with my favorite rib place when they wouldn't deliver to my city even though I was two streets from the border.

When they told me they couldn't deliver, I offered to meet them at the border but they declined.

No they won;t. $3 is just a hair above average years ago. Not worth my extra time and trouble especially for now with gas prices. Now when I use to haul pizzas a long time ago, $5 and up was worth going a little extra for.

And what SVT Cobra did/does is what makes drivers drool over to get that person. We would put good and bad people in the system to make sure they got treated right. Sometimes you here "Hey bob ordered a pizza..." me and the other drivers look at the screen counting to see who got it. Trust me, drivers remember the good and bad and treat accordingly.
 
The closest pizza place is less than a mile away from my apartment but they won't deliver because we're across the county line. If we were just across the street (note, not any closer to them) then they would deliver without a problem.

Already said that I offered to make it worth it for the driver, I ended up tipping the guy from the other place almost 25%, because from the time I ordered to the time he showed up it was like 15 minutes, tops. Great service, and the pizza actually turned out really good this time (it's usually mediocore).
 
I had a friend who used to live less than 100 feet outside the town line, but would sometimes get refused delivery.
 
In the town I used to live in, my friend lived right across a short bridge over the river... literally at the house on the corner right across it, and was refused delivery from half of the pizza places in the town because of this. They were less than a mile away, and referred us to the locations that were about 7 miles out in the neighboring town.

Their loss, because they just always ordered from the stores that would deliver there.


In regards to the OP... You live near a University and you're having a hard time getting a pizza delivered to you? Are you ordering from some very particular non-chain place or something?

Because as soon as they do that, someone one more street over will start b*tching. And if they deliver that one more street, a guy on the next street will complain.

There has to be a hard stop somewhere.

I'm not RIGHT near the university, although I am kind of close. There's two local places that deliver, plus a Dominos up the street. But there's also about 5 other places all within a 5-9 minute drive depending on traffic that won't, even though there's a lot of apartment buildings in the area. Kind of like a pizza delivery dead-zone.
