I recently (read: hour ago) tore my entire case apart and put it back together after a heat related crash (Heat: Case = 38°C, Diode, 64°C). In the process, I discovered that my rear fan was actually blowing IN instead of out. Guess I never noticed it until the summer heat came.

It's amazing what a difference a simple 60mm fan can make.

Prior to the discovery:

Idle temps weere

Case: 34
Diode: 57
Socket: 52

Now idle temps are:

Case: 26
Diode: 49
Socket: 45

Now Load temps are

Case: 28
Diode: 56
Socket: 52

This is a PSA. Check your fans for summer :)

yea sometimes with like an extra fan you can push down your temps by sooo much. Just got a 3 dollar fan and lowered temps like 3-4 celcsius

preach it. its ridiculous. i'm running like 42 idle and 50 load on a 2400+ and even though the manner in which it is setup says "should be lower"

as long as i'm not 70 i really wouldn't care.

Just stick your hand by the fans next time to see if they blow out. Then use paper to see if the intakes are sucking in. This is out of habit for me now since it could lead to such problems as these.

I probably never would have noticed, if my game didn't start stuttering and locking up. After it crashed, I looked at MBM5 and was like "ooooooh, ewwww"

I don't normally care about temperatures either unless it interferes with the operation of the computer :)

Nothing but good out of this so far.

* temps lowered
* No more stuttering
* No more crashes
* Got my CPU cranked back up to 2GHz
* artifacting that started recently disappeared.

:)

My CPU temp was getting to like 60 celsius under load so i cleaned off the fan and now it barely hits 50 under load.. what a difference.

It only needs to be cool enough to be 100% stable. People get obsessive trying to get the system to run at ~ room temp, and only wind up with more noise. You can lower temps all you want, but you can't improve on 100% stability.

When I stuck my finger into the grill-less case fan, the blood splattered out the back, so I'm pretty sure my fan is OK.

Label side facing the back of the case.
Jagec, your roommate got the good ones, my sunons are only 1.4W's =( I believe the 4 watts are "screamer" type fans.
