I feel like an a$$ - FedEx please forgive me

Sunday, after debating for a couple of weeks, I ordered a PS2 from EBGames for my sons as a XMas gift. EBGames had free overnight shipping using FedEx. So I jumped on it.

Tuesday, came and about 5pm, no package. I called FedEx and asked when should I get worried that the package would not make it. The Rep told me 8:30pm and that due to inclimate weather there were some delays.

At 7Pm, the FedEx site said that the no attempt was made at delivery and the package was being returned to the station. So, I became upset. I called up FedEx and got the same Rep I had spoke earlier. I gave him an earfull of "Why is FedEx even allowing this type of service, if they can't deliver when promised" and "So I pay overnight delivery like everyone else, and while they get their package, I don't" lines (I know, the second line was stretching it). The Rep apologized and said it would be there Thursday, but we left it at that. So, I sent an angry email, explaining my frustration and letting them know that UPS would be my carrier of choice from now on and blah, blah, blah.

Well, 12:30 Christmas Day, I get a knock on the door. Expecting it to be my sister and her husband, I was surprised to see a Fedex delivery man there holding a package for me. My jaw dropped.

FedEX, I am sorry, you are the BEST! Noone should have to work on Christmas, and you guys did just to "wanted to make sure that if it's a present it got here on time."

(as a side note, I have learned the important lesson of making up my mind and ordering earlier.)

Hehe I wouldn't feel too bad, there are lots of non-Christians out there I'm sure that didn't mind the 1.5x or 2x pay for having to work on Christmas.

I actually heard from a Fedex guy that they are not paying extra for Christmas and that working that day is strictly voluntary.

Yeah, I tried looking at it that way, but it didn't help.

How do you know he wasn't a Christian? He was probably doing what he had to do, to make sure he still had a job on Thursday. I hope you at least tipped him.

😱 I knew someone was going to mention tipping. I didn't have any cash. Now I feel even worse.

That's exactly my thougt. I am not Christian, but I would be pissed if I had to work on a nationally recognized holiday.

Its a meaningless holiday for those that don't observe it. My friends that don't celebrate X-mas use it as a nice excuse to go on a nice, cheap Caribbean cruise while the rest of Western Christian Society is exchanging gifts. My firm allows those who don't celebrate X-mas to work from home and use the days off for one of their religious or ethnic holidays. The option to work makes sense, some people would rather have an extra day's pay instead of watching college football all day.

I'm confused now 😕 You got your son a PS2 for X-mas, but you aren't Christian? Weird.

Only in WCS; I don't think Christmas has any effect on consumer pricing for goats in Afghanistan 😕

I am not a Christian, but my wife is and raises our kids as Christians. And as MacBaine stated, Christmas is not always for Christians. Hey, I like presents just as much as the next guy. Xmas makes it a convenient time to exchange them.

I hope you people realize that Christmas is NOT an original Christian holiday.

It is a pagan holiday created by Rome in order to corrupt the Christians back in the days.

Now, the day is linked to Christians and has become very materialistic just as Rome planned.

If you doubt me, look up some books and ye shall find.

Wow, I honestly did not know that. I'm going to do a little bit more reading on that. (Not that I don't believe you, just find it fascinating, cuz I guess we were led to believe that Christmas was to celebrate Christs' birth.)

I was shocked as well. As I was growing up, I have been told that the day is to celebrate Christs' birth.

I did some research for a term paper and found some revealing information.

I was under the immpression that Christ was born in April.

I think non-Christians celebrate christmas as a time to get together with family. We are not Christian, but every Christmas we get together with family and have a big dinner and enjoy our time together. We usually don't exchange gifts although the elders usually buy something for the small children, but its a time for everyone to be together.

Most of us non-Christians in North America don't get a day off during our holidays (ie: Diwali, Ramadan, etc..) so we can't get together then. During Christmas everyone has time off so people from across the country and continent can meet up.

So you ordered a gift on monday, got pissed off when overnight didn't come through, and are now grateful that they had people working on Christmas.

1) Overnight doesn't always work

2) You should of planned a little farther in advance, maybe placed the order on Sunday?

3) You shouldn't have reamed anyone out...not their fault you put them in that bind.

4) You should of sent the PS2 to me! 😀

Seriously, i can understand your frustration, waiting around for a package all day and it not showing up, but there were lots of other ways to handle the situation. I feel bad for the guy you laid into.

It still is. If you are pagan and pay homage to the Roman Pantheon, you celebrate Saturnalia on the 25th. Christians celebrate Christmas on the 25th. The Roman Empire (pagan) became the Holy Roman Empire (Catholic), at which point the 25th became Christmas in celebration of the Birth of Christ. Tradition is nothing without purpose, and clearly the purpose shifted with a change in shared beliefs. Gift giving is as old as time, nothing new there, however, the tradition of giving gifts on the 25th is clearly a Christian practice in modern society.
