I was stopped at a light (my boss was in his car in front of me, on our way back from lunch) when this girl who had been tailgating me for a mile or so (I tapped my brakes.. not slowing down but to indicate for her to back off like 1/2 mile before the incident)

anyhow.. I'm completely stopped at a light... out of nowhere BAM.. I'm rear ended at ~10mph... hard enough to push me forward even though I was stopped (didn't hit my boss... thankfully)...

This girl jumps out of her car (22-23 maybe) freaking out... basically she had out of date registration or something and was BEGGING me not to call the cops (she was not hot at all.. blech).. making a big deal about doing ANYTHING.. anything at ALL... etc etc.. then she went into how her uncle owns a body shop and he'll fix my truck.. I decide to call him.. I said I was willing to take my truck (a 98 ranger.. not worth much really..) to another shop, have them tell me what's wrong (bumper, possibly supports, etc) and then he can fix what they say is wrong.. he was like well.. I dunno.. I'll replace the bumper and cut you a deal on the rest.. I'm like wtf are you joking she hit me!! I hung up, then called the cops.

I kind of feel bad... but bleh.. she should have been paying attention.. what if I had been on my bike...

She was in an early 90's accord, her car is messed up bigtime.. both headlights busted, grill pushed all into the radiator.. etc etc.. you can hardly tell my truck was damaged at all.. if I didn't tow off of my bumper I wouldn't have cared less...

I think you did the right thing, for you. You gave her (and her uncle) a chance, it fell through, so do it the legal way.

Sounds like her problem not yours ... anything but a large handful of cash would have had me on the phone to the cops too.

You did what you were supposed to do. That is NOT being a jerk. The person who was being a jerk was (a) tailgating, (b) crashed into you, and (c) tried to get around the laws and the agreement you have with your insurance company.

Almost as bad as the spider thread.
You COULD have started a post
"Get this! Some chic did me in the rear, so I did HER in the rear!"
But noooo.....We get some lame story about how you called some ladies uncle, then got mad and called the cops.

The Force is weak in this thread.

Don't feel bad at all.

You did what the law in most states would require you to do; report an accident with over $500 in damages. I would especially report it because of her out of date registration. People short on money will do some crazy stuff... like claiming you backed into her car in a parking lot to her insurance company.

It is about protecting yourself, and if some ditz can't bother to keep her registration up to date she deserves what is coming to her.

However, your disclaimer that she wasn't hot at all was totally unnecessary ... you telling me if she was hot you wouldn't have done anything? You think you'd get play if you didn't? On the 0.000001% chance that getting play is a reality, you protected everyone else from someone without registration. I've had a car written off because of someone without registration, and had no recourse :|

What's really sad is how stupid/shallow some of you are that you would let a girl's physical appearance affect the outcome of this situation. Women are right... most men are easily manipulated.

uh...the majority of replies said he did the right thing by calling the cops. the only person that hinted he might have done something differently if she was hot was the OP.
