I get off work at 4.30 pm ish to catch my evenning class at 7pm. But during that time is when my sleep bug kicks in and I am VERY VERY SLEEPY. So sleepy that I will literally doze off at any moment. I am driving on the highway and that makes things very dangerous and in a few occasion, i drifted close to the guardrail.

I tried everything that includes the following:
-- Full Blast AC
-- Loud Music
-- Drink Coffee before i leave
-- Drink Water
-- Chinese medicated oil my nose and temple

But nothing seems to work and I now dread driving at that time because it is so dangerous. What should I do?

I do have a good night of sleep though, so it is not that I am sleep deprived..

I went through this when I had to wake up at 5AM to drive an hour to get to work at 6AM. My solution was to constantly sip on something. Coffee or water, as long as I was moving my arms, lips, etc. I was good. The minute I stopped moving something I was dangerously close to being passed out. That was a sucky month, hope you find something that works.

Jab yourself with a thumbtack periodically?
Gingko biloba/ginseng supplements?

you might be anemic...this is more common than most people think...being anemic allows for less oxygen to circular through your body...go get a blood test so they can check your RBC count...i think taking a vitiman that has extra iron in it helps with this problem...i'm no doctor though

you can try two things:

1. look for a different route. you do less thinking driving the same route over and over. your mind kinda gets too relaxed and "shuts down". if you take a different route, you keep your mind active (until you get too used to that one :)).

2. try a caffeine nap. 15 minutes before leaving work (or anytime during work that you feel a bit sleepy), take a shot of espresso or cup of coffee and then take a 10-15 minute nap. should be good to go when you get up.

I do that one a lot when I'm about to doze off but still have studying/assignments/whatever to do. I usually use 2 caffeine pills (400mg) when I do it :p

Try the following things:

1. Take a short nap before you leave for class.

2. Pay attention to your breathing. If you drive to class everyday, you might not be very excited and slow breathing can make you drowsy.

3. Try caffeine.

If none of that works, see a doctor, you may have anemia, some adrenal problem, low blood sugar, or some other issue.

i find it's way easier to stay alert if you keep the windows down. not sure if it's just fresh air or the wind on your face but it keeps me from getting tired.

If had this problem before. Try munching on something. I used to munch on baby carrots and celery sticks. If you need something that you can keep in your car try a variety of nuts.

Use coconut milk in your food on occasion. For the parasites.

I am only half kidding.

Do you feel sleepy at other times during the day too, or ONLY while driving? If you are sleepy at other times you could have something like Sleep Apnea which causes you to get very poor sleep because of lack of oxygen so even if you sleep 10 hours, you never really get rested.
