I feel a lump inside my upperneck. Kinda hurts when I press on it. Any idea what it is???

It's on the right side of my upperneck. A little below my jaw and somewhat beneath my gums. Feels kinda swollen and if I press on it, I feel a lump. I lost my medi-cal coverage when I turned 21 and I don't have a job that gives me benefits yet. Or else I'd be at the doctor right now. I guess I'll wait a few days but it's got me worried. Anybody got any ideas what it might be? I'm hoping it's just something with my gums because I've been neglecting to brush before I goto bed.

you have cancer, you are going to die.

give me your pc and any other valuables, make sure to double box.

Seriously tho, it's probably a swollen lymph node. You need more rest and good diet.

LOL 😀

anyway, try to feel it on the other side, if you find the same there then its perfectly normal, there are some.. "eitlar" in icelandic, some other word in english probably.

dunno what lymph node is. i'll go check it out on webmd. as for those who were less than helpful, making jokes about other people's life will come back and haunt u one day.

<< Lymph node? >>

It happened to me before, turned out to be some other kind of node (not a lymph node, but I forget what... some node)... Anyway, it kept getting worse till I went to the doctor. He prescribed some antibiotic, and it went away in a few days.

"making jokes about other people's life will come back and haunt u one day. "

doubtful, but if it does it will be later than relying on anandtech for your medical advice catches up with you.

i was serious, i had one, and i went to a doc...... they tested my blood for cancer and stuff..... so you might want to go to someone

Hoeboy, this is a common thing for me all my life. Personally for me, it is an indication that my system is fighting something off, and I know that if I don't start getting more sleep I will come down with something. If you have a fever or sore throat or you're weak, that would be a good reason to see a Dr.

why do people always come in here and instead of giving advice, either give sly remarks or call people stupid cuz they are asking for help? if i really had the money or the medical coverage, do you think i'd be on here? geez.

as for checking the other side, it's smaller. and no i don't feel sick or anything. i had a sore throat last week but that's about it.

In very simplistic and unscientific terms, your lymph nodes get swollen usually b/c they have filtered out and are fighting the enemy in that region of your body. For someone like me, this is a my last warning that I'm about to get sick and I have a choice to either take care of myself or ignor it and get sick. YMMV.

I have a swollen lymph node on the side of my neck, right behind my ear. I had blood tests for cancer when I first noticed it years ago, and I'm good to go. Why do you come in here asking for a medical opinion? Why not just go out and get it checked!?

Not to seem rude, but there are free clinics you know, taxpayer or charity funded, that you could go to. Even if there were a doctor or other medical professional on ATOT right now, professional ethics would prohibit them from rending diagnostic or other assistance to you. If you feel you have a medical condition needing attention, there are channels for you to avail yourself of, whether you have insurance coverage or not.

I don't fault you for looking for information, but you're looking for it in the wrong place.

You need to get it checked out, it could be serious. It almost certainly isn't, but why take the chance?

well i'mma take some penicillin. i guess this is a wake up call that i better go get some medi-cal insurance. thanks for all your help everyone.
