Hi, i took out my asus P3B-f mobo running a P3-800 and put in a P4T-E asus mobo with a P4-2.2. It didnt work when i started it up. When i turned on the surge protecter switch, the fan and lights came on, then turned off, until i turned on the PC power switch. But, nothing would happen. My moniter light stayed orange instead of green and the PC would not boot. No beebs, no nothin. My power supply is a Ablecom redundant cooling switching power supply (max 300w). Input (AC) 115v /230v 50/60hz 6a/4a. I plugged in the PS using that big main power connecter to the mobo, that was the only power connection to mobo. I have a ATI 8500 vid card and used corsair rdram pc800. 2x256=512 total. SB Audigy SC, 40 gig WD HD and all the other stuff we use nowadays in our PC's.

I put the P3-800 back in case and my P4T-E, cpu and mem are back in the box they were shipped in.

Anybody got any ideas. Do i need a diff PS? Did i do something wrong, (must have, hehe). Any advise would be nice. Thanks everyone.

Most P4 mobos have a 4 pin 12 volt square adapter that has to be used. Most newer power supplies have it. Your power supply probably doesn't. I saw a P4 12v adapter at Fry's electronics for $2.99 that works off a standard 4 pin power supply connector. You can also order them online. Or you can do what I did. I found a codegen 350 watt power supply (amd approved) with the P4 12v adapter for only $24 plus shipping at 800pc.

As far as i could tell, i put everything together the right way. I took my time and did everything by the book (manuall). Doesnt seem to to much one can mess up, it was all a matter of plugging things in the right place, im sure all that was done correct.

No, my PS does not have one of those 4 pin connectors, just the ATX power connector for the mobo. Does a P4 mobo need to have 2 power connections to the mobo? Via the ATX connector and the 4 pin connector.

Reason i bring up the PS was someone told me, from another post, that i may need a new one.

Thanks again guys............ CK

Sounds good, Guess ill order one of the P4 power supplies and try to reinstall everything next weekend. Hopefully the PS was my problem and i will have better luck with a new PS.

Do you think i did any damage to my P4T, mem or cpu by using my old PS when i fired it up for the first time? Nothin sparked or smelled and that green LED mobo light was workin when i shut her down.
