It is proper conductive ink. Circuit Writer from Fry's. I gave up anyway. I wasn't using a pin though. I was using an Xacto knife, and then a piece of modelling wire cut to form a tip. Maybe a pin would be easier.

What does unlocking it actually do? Just let you change the multipliers?

Exactly, although it's not always necessary if you have an Nforce2 board.
