system spec as follows:
Antec P180
DFI Ultra-D
X2 3800+
OCZ Performance 2x1GB
eVGA 7800GT CO
BenQ DW1650
ViewSonic VX2025wm

I'm not sure what's on. When I power up the system and turn on my LCD, it just says no signal. My LCD and video card is connected by DVI. I'm not sure what's wrong...someone help me please :) Thanks

He meant that does the PC work as a whole works? Is there a normal on beep when the PC was turned on?

oh no it doesn't
i have my keyboard plugged in but weirdly no light is up on it
oh yes, i forgot to plug in the PCI-E adaptor before all these, i tried to turn it on once, would it have been that my video card had died from that one shot? :(

EDIT: oh, might it be that ultra-D doesn't support SATA w/o a bios update?
i dont have an ide drive hanging around though

ok ok, lets see. When you turned on you pc without the Pci-e connector to your video card. Usually the motherboard will beep to signal a video card not detected problem. (depends on what the mobo manual would describe in different types of beeps)

I'm not sure though, it's hard to believe that the video card will just pooped out without power. Unless the motherboard is touching the case without the aid brass stand offs, then the PC wont boot (yeah...i made that mistake lol).

if you're new on PC building, you can check mechbgon's guide. There might be some stuff there that could help you out.

Reboot your computer, listen for system beep, that's should give an opening post screen with text and then Windows and so on.

No beep. Open case, make sure video card is fully seated, and try again,

If still no beep, then replace video card with spare, or beg, steal or borrow one.

Is this your first power-up ever for the computer meaning it is brand spanking new?

The PCIe connector not plugged in will not damage the video card. I have done that before myself (a 7800gt), and it was okay... it just wouldn't play any games. I believe the PCIe slot itself will deliver power, the PCIe connetor delivers extra power that it would need.

You don't need to connect the hard drive, disconnect that and leave out the video card as well (if you don't have onboard video, leave it in). So with only cpu (make sure it's securely installed) and memory, see if it will boot (or make any beeps).

You should try hooking up the lcd through the standard vsub? connector...you know the 15 pin thingie. Once when I setup a computer the monitor would not pick up a signal from dvi until i booted up with the regular cable, then went into display options and told it that dvi was my primary source.

don't forget to use only 1 stick of ram. switch them up if one doesnt do the trick. if both don't work, its almost safe to say your ram isn't the culprit.

You're not suppose to start with 1 stick of ram.. it means the one you took out is defective. RMA it.

Or, it just wasn't seated right. Check the other memory stick by itself first.

just one quick question:
so even if they're in a dual channel yet when i bought it, there is still a chance that one of them will be defective?

I dont' see why not. There are two sticks and of course one of them could be defective.
