I.E crashing (even after reboot); xabrk.dll???

Yesterday, the 30th, I.E started crashing on my main system pretty frequently-come to think of it, it's been happening every browsing session. I rebooted a few minutes ago, and tried again. same problem. the specific error is an illegal operation error, with a reference to an invalid page fault in module xabrk.dll. click ok, and one of my internal windows closes due to an error, or whatever that message says before that session is ended. I searched google and support.microsoft.com for xabrk.dll, nothing doing...

now, heres where it gets interesting...the file properties for xabrk.dll, found in c:\windows, state that it was created on july 30th. I havent installed any new programs recently, so now im a little concerned...i run liveupdate then antivirus, doesnt find anything wrong. but it wont let me change the filename of the .dll (to .dl2 or whatever) because it's in use. (I havent tried renaming it from command prompt yet-thats the next step, for now im just wondering if anyone else has this file in their windows directory). programs running (those listed after a ctrl-atl-del) are:
exploring - windows
explorer
aim
ctfmon (sound related IIRC)
zonealarm
Ir (has to do with my winTV product)
poproxy (?)
navapw32
tppaldr (?)
Apc_tray
systray

again, this problem occurs after a reboot too.

so anyways, im now about to reboot to a command prompt and rename the file. meantime, anyone come across this before, any ideas what the dll is for? I'm reading it as XA-BReaK, but, umm, i'm also a little paranoid now so you should probably ignore that theory 😉

hope someone can help me out...will update soonish.

thanks

edit: i renamed the file to .dl2 at a command prompt, got back into windows, no problems at the moment, still wondering about the file though-anyone have it, etc?

That is a weird one , I had a good look for this file using Google and the MS knowledge base and came away with nothing , seems to be quite a mysterious file you have there .
I hope you have success from naming that file but would be interesting to know is what does it apply to and where did it come from .

I would guess its either spyware or maybe even a virus attachment. Probably some kind of new spyware though. I would try Ad-aware.
