..I dropped my digital camera.....

I have the Sony DSC-W100Sony dsc-w100. I dropped it and the lens (which extend outwards) are now setback into each other. The camera still works, and focuses, but the zoom function doesn't seem to be working, as the lens parts are pushed into one another. Any ideas?I took it to a wolf camera store and they quoted a $200 price for repair service. Any ideas? Thanks.

My buddy dropped his P100 and the lens got stuck in the same way (sounds like in the same way). Sony quoted him $150 and then another friend of ours was messing around with it and just poped the lens back in. Has been working like a champ ever since.

Probably you dislodged the lens pieces from the track they are on that zooms...or you could have done worse. $200 isn't a far off quote for something like that.

I dropped my Canon SD200 before on the lens. The lens got stuck and the camera stopped working. One day at a party, this girl was trying to fix her lens on her casio by trying to force it back in. She said that little trick fixed it several times. I went home and forced my lens back in, and lo and behold, it worked again!

On another note, I say try dropping it again or smacking it. I had a Fuji Finepix 2600 back in the day, and the lens got stuck out I believe. My dad dropped it on the ground and it worked again

Ouch. You might try pulling on the lens (with your fingernails) when it should be extending. It can't hurt at this point.

It's possible that one of the lenses elements has jumped the helicoli internally. Unfortunately Sony won't fix this and will just replace the lense assembly which is big $$$. A small repair place might be better at fixing this on the cheap assuming there is no real damage.

Yup, nor would the powershot match the W100 in quality.

I did the exact same thing that you did. From what i read you have jammed your lens assembly. You may be able to fix it by pulling on the lens when you turn your camera on. I didn't have any luck but a lot of people have.
