i plan to keep the car for at least 3 more years. is it worth paying $8-10 more to go synthetic ?

You probably won't be able to tell a difference..but it definitely wouldn't hurt.

I've been running synthetic (Mobil1) for about 40k now (156,000+ on the engine now)..no complaints.

Its probably fine, but if you switch dont switch back.

Thats a myth. Spend some time reading this forum and you'll understand: http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/

Since you have 40K on the car, you might consider doing an Auto-RX treatment before you switch to synthetic. It'll clean out all of the accumulated sludge and help prevent excessive consumption that may occur.

Maybe if you put synthetic from the start, probably not worth it.

for just 3 years in an econobox which is known for reliability anyway, it's not worth it.

I agree. If you were planning to keep it for 400k miles or something then maybe but its just a civic. Running synthetic isn't going to make any difference to most people in resale so don't bother.

yeah, you can go another few miles on synthetic between changes, and you might even get a gas mileage bump

worth it

i got a 99 av6 on mobil 1 since 10k.. its now at 110k.. still drives well.. hope to hit 200-250k before switching to tsx or another accord.. as noted, depends on if ur keeping the car forever or short term... i said 3 year tack another 60k miles on ur existing 40k.. wouldn't be bad but if you do regular oil changes, no need to go synthetic
