decided that i was spending way too much time gaming (i have a 2 year old son - i need my sleep) so i pulled my gladiac and boxed it up with all my games and sold em off to a guy in canada. put my old 2mb millenium pci in and i must say the 2d on this card is so nice to see, crisper/richer than the GTS. anyhow i needed a card that supported video overlay so i could continue to edit miniDV material, and the matrox isn't capable, so in went a dusty old i740 board. i couldn't help myself, so i downloaded Q3ADemo and fired it up. on a 650E @ 866 = 34fps 'normal' settings at 640x. i laughed. the image quality aint that bad either.

Hehe, I've got a tough old i740 board in my third-tier computer (C300A@450), I get ~30 fps at 640x w/Quake2, certainly playable, and image quality isn't too bad either. Plus it works OK under Linux.

EyE740 Own3z j00 ! :)

I used to have a Real3D starfighter installed in a game server box. Couldn't play UT (other than software mode) but I recall that some dude (Mr. Natural ?) had a website with some home-brew drivers that made Q3 run much faster than the intel or real3d drivers. He called them the "sizzling" drivers. IIRC Q3 went from around 25fps to almost 40fps. Lost some image quality, though :(

Hey, thats basically the same graphics that anyone with a i810/i815 chipset has onboard. It isn't half bad for office stuff and you can even play games at low res on it. Not exactly blazing though. I got a PCI Voodoo3 for my board. Very happy up to now.

Hehe- I just upgraded FROM an i740. It was a great card for the past 2-3 years that I've been running it. It ran CounterStrike at 800x600 at avg 60-70 fps on my 550e@809!
