does anybodoy go through this? i'm 22 and a senior in college. gonna graduate in a year. i feel like i'm going thru a quarter life crisis or something. i guess i see the end of college symbolizing a real turning point in my life where i will become an "adult" and start working, having family, kids, having to think of retirement, taxes. blah blah blah. i just want things to be simple again like when i was a kid. and i don't want my life to be so routine where i wake up, work, eat, sleep, and start all over again.

:(

Well, you *chose* the security over excitement. You could be off in Africa feeding poor people or a wandering hobo or a Kurdish freedom-fighter in Turkey.

i think our just nervous bout what to do after you graduate...just make an effort and something will come along...you'll see...beside waking up working ewating sleeping and doing it all over again is being an adult...lol

I had the occasional feeling along those lines but being an "adult" kicks ass compared to being a kid. I'm 23 and I'd never go back. The older I get the better it gets. High school sucked. University was better, then when I finally got a job that was better yet. I like control over my life and when you're in school you don't have it. People who long for days of being a worry free kid either had very good childhoods (mine was kinda blah in many ways!) or their adult lives suck. I think being an adult is cool :)

The worst thing is to worry about it.

Take charge of your life and make it into what you want it to be. You have to decide what you want first.

However, you cannot "have it all". Some sacrifices have to be made if you choose a career and family. Other sacrifices are made if you choose "freedom" and a more carefree lifestyle.

However, "old" is a state of mind (as "young" is).

thanks guys, now i have the toys r us theme song stuck in my head :p

but i think u guys are right. it's all in my hands how my life is going to be. i just don't want that responsibility. it was so much easier just letting other people handle the details while i just reaped the benefits of a simple life :)

and yes, i had an awesome childhood. i went to a great high school, a wonderful college, etc. but maybe i can have a great adulthood too. who knows.

Life after college is great.

You have the entire evening for freetime, plus weekends. Don't have to worry about HW and exams. Plus you'll have more money to enjoy the freetime.

Now, if I could keep the month long vacation btw semesters plus summers off...;)

fastz is right. In school you work weird hours and homework and assignments are always on your mind. And to show for it you have no damn money! When school is done it's 9-5 (for most people) and when you're home that's it. Nothing else to do. On the weekends sleep in and sit on your ass all day if you want. Last year when I started working it took literally months for me to totally get rid of that "guilt" feeling that was in the back of my head for years knowing that I always had something coming up I had to do. Last year was the first time I could truly relax knowing that there was nothing over my shoulder. Just work and make money and do whatever!!

U'll get urself upset if u CARE about it too much. Everyone's growing and no one knows what's happening next, so just enjoy ur life as usual!

Then why do you and so many other people just accept it? Why do enter into a life thrown upon you by society? All your life you've been told to

  1. go to school and
  2. get good grades so you can
  3. go to a good college so you can
  4. get a good job and then
  5. get married and have a family

If you don't want to do those things then don't. It's your life, nobody has to live it, so why do want to let them run it? How about this:

  1. go to school and
  2. get good grades so you can
  3. be an intelligent person so you can
  4. make your own choices in life like
  5. not getting a job, instead after school travel Europe by backpack while you're still young and after getting some lessons in real life besides just book learning
  6. start a business instead of getting a "good job" (of which I think no such thing exists, all jobs suck in some way or another, otherwise they wouldn't be called jobs)

I totally dont want to grow up. I know that if I want any sort of life, Ill have to work and such, BUT, Ive decided that Im gonna stay my fun lovin happy go lucky self!

w00t!

(yeah, you CAN be upbeat and depressed at the same time. You just have to be a really good actor)

I mean, I go around school singing 80s television themes and just laughing at every little immature thing, and I hope that never changes! (cept the school part...Im sure school will get old after a while)

Im 21 by the way.

I don't consider myself a grown-up, and I'm 27. I can't say that my life has turned out as I may have envisioned it but I'll get where I want to go someday and in the meantime, as long as I can support myself, pay my bills and have fun, I don't feel like I have to 'grow up'.
