I don't wanna go in the attic!

Argh. It's August in Dallas. Today was a hot day.

I need to install a ceiling fan in the 2nd bedroom before I have a contractor blow 12 inches of insulation up there. (Trust me, it's easier to do now, when I can actually see the rafters underneath my feet, than after 12 inches of insulation go in there.)

I've been staring at that little door in the ceiling for a while now. I really don't wanna do this.

Sigh. I'll be back when the fan is installed.

Good luck, and be careful.

I actually installed a thermometer in our attic last summer, and it easily registered 100+ when it's 92 outside, and this is in VA. You Texans seem to go higher on a regular basis.

Argh. Foiled by funky architecture.

My house doesn't have air conditioning ducts; rather there's a plenum space (a conduit made of sheetrock, essentially) above the hallway with feeders to each bedroom. I drilled through the header.... and drilled and drilled and drilled.... eight inches later I'm still generating sawdust. I think I'm drilling into the top of a stud.

Trying to find landmarks in the room that I can use from the attic to find the right place to drill down into the wall isn't yielding much.

I guess I'll go back up there, move the drill bit a few inches and try again. :(

The one I installed this morning went without a hitch. If I could just get the cable down into the wall I should be home free.

Finally!

The fourth hole I drilled ended up being in the right place, and I got the cable fished down the wall.

Now for the electrical part, which should be the easy part.

reminds me of this job I had years ago. I did contract installation work for StarTrac Fitness. (They sell treadmills, bikes and stuff, not space cruisers)

Most of the time it was cake work, installing and maintaining equipment in airconditioned clubs with all kinds of hotties walking around.

There was this one installation, a home install..this guy had built a mini gym in the second floor of his barn/garage. I had about 45 min of work to do installing his treadmill and elliptical trainer. The thermometer in the room read 121F...and this was Iowa in July, so the humidity was around 85%. On top of that, part way into the install, he and his HOT HOT HOT TIGHT teenage daughter come up there for an evening workout. I'm already sweating my balls off, but then she shows up. And, she was maybe 17..going on 21, she looked...Uhhhhh...nice, anyway, what was I talking about?

Well, the wiring is in the wall, fed into the electrical box with the switch, connected and closed up.

I still have to hang the fan, but it's bedtime now. After a shower, of course.
