I was away from the forums for over a year, and I come back on here and people started to bring up old nonsense and provoke me for no apparent reason.

Because all I see in this post is your providing a source that completely agrees with my previous statement.

All I said is you see the real character of any individual. Not everyone changes when presented with an anonymous method of communication. If they change, all you see is the true self, in comparison to the side they are forced to moderate in normal life.
If they don't change, they are still showing their true character - their character that is persistent across all fronts.

Nice article and so true especialy in the social forums here. With anonymity there is no accountability and people tend to post stuff they would never tel anybody face to face.

I am as guilty as anybody and I don't mind posting a nasty when a post irks me the wrong way. People do it to me too and that's ok up to a point. That's where moderation kicks in.
