I'd let almost anyone out ahead of me. Children definitely first. Followed by women as they have a slightly higher relevance in child rearing than men do (not so true anymore but its still obvious that women are more nurturing by nature). If a child is losing a parent, I'd rather it were the father than the mother.
As for me, I'll go last. I'm a 19 year old plain looking guy in the IT industry. There are million other dudes out there who could fill any role I currently possess (including being a replacement of me for my gf). They could do any of these roles far better than I ever could. There is no reason my life should come before anyone elses.
Also, I will be behind anyone younger than me. I've lived longer. Especially after age 50 I see no particular reason to be before anyone. I lived a life. At that point I'll only be able to offer less to society than I already do, I see no reason at that point to have any priority.

But no. I'm right. What other animal goes to the extent we do to kill its own species? All for what? Idealism, territory, and other bullshit. Animals fight, mostly for leadership and rarely to kill.
Our small quarrels with the girlfriend's secret lover are about the closest thing that resembles. But that's the lowest of our dominance complex.
Primates are about the only major organisms that will actively engage their tribal dominance complex to seek out and kill the same species. Everything has to be grouped together, because we so innately desire to belong to a group, from the smallest to the largest. You get the fanboys over gadgets, brands - to the cults, the gangs - up to religion and ideals - and then to nations. But not only is it that, we actively seek to group everyone else. Opposing fanboys, gangs, random affiliations even if false, based on appearances - to bashing the people of other religions, sometimes killing over, and even simply skin color, and we even call it racial. We're one flippin race, the species has just adapted to different geography. You got the short people and even dwarfs, the different skin colors, bone structures, and even body shape differences. We even have to classify some of these as genetic abnormalities, as if its 'wrong' for their body to be like that. Recall how there was pygmies on some islands, and even in larger land-locked locales? Many of the things we see now could even be surviving mutations that ancestors of a long time ago had as survival adaptations. Our global breeding pattern though is now mixing all these random adaptations together, and sometimes strange things happen, even when a group carried something but had been basically genetically deactivated or repressed... could have mixed with other genetic code though, code not seen before in that group of people... get this over generations and things happen.
Note, the above is my theories. Some right, some a little more complex, and some likely far-fetched or plain wrong. Not a geneticist, so that's the most likely candidate for far-fetched/flat out wrong. The rest though... we retarded but are extremely adaptable. But we can't do things other than solve problems and educate. We requires problems or seemingly problematic circumstances to present themselves. So... we won't drastically change what we call humanity, until something forces us to. Like aliens, a devastating natural or unnatural disaster, etc. We can survive, but what's the point? If we just keep chugging along, odds are against us that we'll just die a lonely death as a species on this rock.
Short and sweet point - we need a hostile alien invasion if we want to become a better species. Here's to hoping 21Dec2012 is such an event. 😀

I say the way it should work is if you're close to the exit you GTFO. You don't wait around to be courteous. You go out if you can, which in the end is better as it's one person less in the way. Imagine a cramped airplane where 100 people are all trying to get out of the same exit because the others can't be opened. Last thing you want is some guy staying on the side blocking half the exit and waiting for only woman to go first, and men accumulate and start being obstacles in the way. Sure help people get out faster where you can, but be sure you're not in the way.

It is NOT science.
But it is what the almost totally ignorant kiddies here on OT almost always mean when they refer to "Darwinism."
It bears the same relation to actual Darwinian theory as decals on your Civic bear to genuine performance upgrades.
