I don't understand why nvidia put such a loud fan on the Geforce FX. Thats crazy. No one is going to like the noise.

I think companys need to focus on more quiet cooling solutions, etc. No one likes a noisey computer.

That's why i can't stand a video card with a fan or a motherboard with a chipset fan. That's why pretty much the highest card I can get is the Radeon 9000 (non-pro). They come w/o fans. Not too shabby, anyways, I guess.

I think you might be suprised at how many people may not like it, but put up with it. My roommate's computer sounds like a jet plane idling due to a power supply on its last legs, a couple extra case fans, and a poorly desinged case that seems to amplify everything. I can hear his comp outside of his room, even in my room across the hall. I'm sure that he is nto the only person out there like that. As well, you can bet tons of people would put up with the noise just so that they can have the top of the line card for the moment.

About the only thing I like about retail pre-built computer systems is their quietness. The Gateway tower my cousin just bought is SO SO quiet.

well... when you have a GPU with 125+ million transistors running at 500MHZ and drawing about 75W from your psu, you can expect a good deal of heat...
but they really couldve thought of a smarter way to cool it down im sure... zalman has passive cooling for gpus and i bet if you coupled that with an ordinary powerful but not very noisy fan like a 92mm it could very well cool the b**ch down... i think... it certainly has pottential to cool it and probably be less noisy than the hoover they got...
