I don't understand. Where is my low ping?

Quick and short. Have had several problems(horrible latency) the past 6 months. Only provider I can get. I call and report once/week. They've told me they have been waiting on equipment to upgrade the hardware, whatever that entails. The last week the only quake 2 server I play on my ping has been steady 50ms which is PERFECT to me. 49-50 24/7. Yesterday, joined the same server, won't go below 70. I know it's only 20ms but with quake 2's old netcode, etc, 20ms is night and day.

I'm pinging the server in cmd prompt and it's shooting a constant 50avg(50/51/49/50 every time).

Why is my ping 20ms higher for no reason? Not during peak-time, etc. The last week it's been PERFECT, nothing changes and now it's 70.

Any idea?

Do you have DSL? Did they put you on interleaved when they upgraded their equipment, rather than leave you on fastpath?

this.

i was going to inquire about cable and interleave. is it the same for cable?

and to further support VL. last week a guy in ut3 just mentioned the same thing over the context of his own ping. he use to ping 40-60 on Beer Drinkers and Hell Raisers. he called up his provider after a long long time of problems. He found out interleave was on, requested it be shut off and he now pings 28 to the same server.

so from what i've been reading, fast path is better for gaming, correct?

guess i'll give tech support a call and ask them about it.
