I don't understand what was causing this...

On sunday, I accidentally bumped my computer a little. The mp3 track I was playing at the time get into a continous loop like when CD player hits a scratched spot on a CD. The computer was frozen and I had to reboot it. I didn't know if it was actually the shock or coincidence so I kicked it again to verfity that problem is reproducible. This time though not only it locked, the computer won't POST anymore.

The first thing I have done in an attempt to solve this was re-inserting everything from CPU to memory to all extension cards. This did not cure the problem at all. As a final chance, I took out the motherboard and re-installed it back in the case. This fixed everything and my computer no longer exibit instability to shock as I have confirmed by kicking it a few times rather hard and hitting it with a baketball full force.

It had to be something between the case and the mobo I'm guessing, but what causes something like above??

Edit: specifically, I really can't see what re-seating the mobo on the case revised and what could have caused it to be shock sensitive. Yeah we had a fare share of hit and giggle in Off-Topic. Now I want to find out the technical reasoning for this cause.

ROFL - you sure know how to treat your computer. I hope I never accidently bump into you while taking a stroll.

As for the issue, it's possible that the mobo became a little disloged and one or more of the contacts became shorted. Reinserting it fixed the shorting. That would be my first guess.
 
Yes, I would think that something came loose such as a cable or connection and when you reseated everything again it fixed the problem.

that was probably the motherboard's reflex action (akin to closing it's eyes and saying i'll be a good computer just PLEASE don't kick me again)

ps you may have inadvertantly permentantly damaged its ability to close its eyes (either that or you got yourself one very brave computer there son😉)

or maybe them there computers get used to the shock of being KICKED faster than us eh...😉

ok my fren had a problem similiar to this.... he resitted his mobo and everything worked fine.... apparently some part of his mobo(besides where the screws are) was touching his casing shorting the mobo constantly. I suggest that u resitting your mobo making sure nothing mettalic touches the mobo besides yer graphic card network blah blah
 
Your mobo probably shifted a little bit after the kicking (you should be in tech support...really.) and was shorting on the case. As for why the MP3 was skipping after you bumped it the first time, my best guess is that maybe your hard drive didn't like the shock, but I could be wrong.


I suggest ya microwave the whole thing and buy a new computer.

It bothers me that those pegs under my motherboard is possibly causing problems and whether I push mobo toward the panel or toward the back makes life and death difference.
