I don't understand the Nextel commercials

You know the ones where they have people sitting right beside each other talking on their walkie talkies? WTF is the commercial trying to convey?

Morons need walkie talkie service?

I didnt get it either. If you are a fott from someone why do you need a phone?

Just showing that instead of making a call you can use the WT part. Personally I'd have to kill anybody if they started walkie talkieing me. Seems like a very very annoying thing to have the damn phone beep and some ahole start talking to me. I know some guy who got rid of his because he found it a pain in the ass.

Also, people using this walkie talkie thing in public need to be beaten with a crowbar. How annoying and pretentious can you get?

So you can annoy all the people around you with that annoying alert beeps...

I feel like one day before I leave my current job, I'm going to grab two working PushToTalk phones... activate the alert beeps... and keep on beeping the two phones in my hands as I walk around the mall annoying people with it. Mebbe trying to make a little rhythm with the annoying beeps.

BEEDEEEP!!BEEDEEEP!!BEEDEEEP!!BEEDEEEP!!

I don't see the advantages to the walkie talkie function over just calling someone normally. Anyone care to explain?

I believe it costs less per minute, so that you can talk to your deadbeat boyfriend for 2000 minutes a month at a lower cost.

Used to have them when I worked for another contractor. For some businesses (like construction) they are indispensable. Personal use though would be kind of stupid.

Not many personal Nextels here in Kansas....

To me, the most common reasons for someone not answering their cellphone is because they turned it off, the battery is dead, or they left it elsewhere (at home or in the car)....

Exactly how does the walkie takie allow you to get a hold of the other person in these cases?

Our business uses them, our plans allow unlimited Walkie Talkie so we can talk to each other all day and not use minutes at all.

Sure.
What it does, is it makes talking on the phone in public even MORE annoying becuase now you hear both ends of the conversation PLUS the beeps.

Useful in certain businesses. A buddy of mine is in HVAC and he says it's helpful on the jobsites but annoying if someone keeps using it after work.
