I just dont get these people who think it's all or nothing for whatever company/brand etc they choose. Me personally, I like Apple, Android, Webos, Win 7 mo and bb products.

Some have had extremely bad experiences with one vendor or brand, so they avoid it like the plague. Others want to support, or avoid, certain business practices, so they stick with only vendors/brands that mirror their stance.

I think it's closely related to the fact that smartphones have become status symbols. If they turn their back on their brand, they're admitting that they aren't and weren't cool.

For some it started before smartphones.

I don't understand it either.

I've been on these subforums for the past few months as I've been interested in upgrading to a smartphone and really wanted an iPhone for a while, however did not want ATT. I waited it out to see if CES would prove there is an iPhone on VZW and there is.

The trend I've noticed on here is that is that the people loyal to Android phones LOVE to let everyone know they are loyal to them and how superior the Android phones are to every other phone, and how much "better" and more features they have than either BB or iPhones or Win7. Most talk with an elitist attitude in that their phone is so much better than anything else out there. Not everyone, just the majority.

On the other hand, it seems the BB, Win7, or iPhone people don't really give a crap about what the Android phones or other phones they don't have can do since they are focused on the brand they like and how it suits their needs.

Not saying this is 100% accurate but it is a general view I've seen here.

All of us here are techy/nerd etc in some way or another so it is crazy how we all can't honestly find and/or appreciate things from all the companies

I don't get extreme brand loyalty either. Not even a little. I have a few companies that I had bad experiences with - like Seagate and ATI - but these were over a decade ago and despite my extreme irritation ("what the heck do you mean that you aren't releasing a Windows 95 driver for my 3 month-old $200 ATI Trio 64+ video card?"), I eventually got over my upsetness and I have an ATI card and a Seagate drive in my current systems. I get brand loyalty to some extent - if I'm happy with a product, I'll recommend it to others. But this idea that I can vehemently tell people not to get a different brand of phone that I've never even used... I don't understand it.

I can understand being tied to a product - the fact that I have a lot of music in .aac format and a bunch of iPhone apps gives me a good reason to stick with iPhones unless there's a really great reason to move. But this whole extreme brand for video cards, CPU's and smart phones boggles my mind. I've worked for Intel for over 15 years and I own a bunch of AMD products (and that's even after AMD didn't offer me a job when I interviewed there way back when :) ).

i don't really agree with this. I see crazed fanboys in every camp.

I am loyal to whatever brand has the best hardware/software/eco-system on the market coupled with the lowest monthly fee when it's time for me to upgrade. It's really that simple. Right now I'm an EVO fanboy because I'm on Sprint.

I think this subforum is just as bad with iFanboys as it is with Android Fanboys. I also don't understand why people feel the need to defend their choice to others or defend the faceless, uncaring corporation whose logos appear on their devices.

I personally hate Apple and if asked by friends or family, point out the pros and cons of the iPhone compared to the competition and why I don't like iOS, but I'm not douchey enough to believe my desired use-cases match my friends and family and ultimately leave the decision to them.

I hate Apple products, mainly because Apple owners annoy me. That's my only bias. ;)

I don't have brand loyalty, but strong disloyalty :)

Either because I have had bad experiences with multiple products from the same brand or don't agree with the way they run their business. Or a combination of both (cough...Sony...cough)

This. So much this.

You dont see iPhone users going into android threads and telling them how stupid they are. Yet you see android users come into iPhone thread in droves and attempt to mock anyone that owns one.

See purbeasts own thread for confirmation of this.

Umm yes you do. We've had just as many iPhone lovers as Android lovers flaming threads. I'm not going to name any names though. Everyone is exactly the same in flaming.

i just found it kind of amusing that the thread got to over 100 posts in less than a day and probably only 3-4 people in there addressed the original post heh.

Seeing as you were targeting me in purbeast's thread, you may be interested in knowing that I have never owned an Android device.

Oh YES I do.
Plenty of iPhone fanboys in here too.
I'm a little bit bias toward Apple products right now.
I was becoming so bias that I had to go back to Android for a few weeks just so I can be objective again.

i don't know a single person who has an iphone so i'm still thinking i'm correct. actually a good number of my friends still use dumbphones

Damm, you must live in the boon dock if you don't know anyone who has an iPhone.
Also if you go to any 3rd world country that don't sell iPhones, iPhones are major status symbol there.

I'm a fan of FOSS, aside from the N900 Android is as good as it gets for me, so that's who I'll support.
