I'm addicted to at least one drug - caffeine. Right now it's 2.44pm and I'm sitting at my desk at work. My last coffee was almost an hour ago and I'm literally jonesing for my next one. I'm fighting the temptation to get another coffee between now and 3pm, which is when I normally take an afternoon break.

I never used to think caffeine was that addictive - but I'm well and truely hooked.

I've never been addicted to something. I don't understand how someone could become addicted to anything. It doesn't make sense to me. I can quit doing anything whenever I want, maybe I just have willpower, morals, or integrity, idk.

I normally don't feed the trolls but I can't stand ignorance on this subject.

1: Some people are more likely than other to become addicted to (x). Sometimes its genetics, sometimes its their upbringing...sometimes its just the way it is.
2. Usually when people say that someone is addicted to something, they actually mean dependent. Very few addicts or alcoholics are physically addicted. Most are dependent in that their bodies aren't used to acting without those substances. There are plenty of people addicted to porn and other things that are not chemicals. They are just very used to them and can't imagine life without it.
3. You cannot quit doing anything you want, whenever you want. Quit breathing or sleeping or eating. The same little twinge of fear that you feel when you really imagine going without those things is the same thing an addicts feels when they imagine stopping. Except addicts usually have anxiety issues that make the fear much, much stronger.
4. Most addicts have too much willpower. They are very self reliant and are convinced that they can will their way out of their addictions. We call it good ol Uncle Will. Uncle Will never comes through.
5. Morals have zero to do with it. Most addicts consider themselves better than other addicts because they have higher morals. "I don't steal...I've never hurt anyone....I'm still a good provider." Just because someone is an addict it doesn't mean they don't have morals.
6. I would like you to give me your definition of integrity before I address that.

Yes I am a drunk. I know all about this subject from first hand information. If you are trolling, this is the wrong topic in the wrong place. If you would really like information, I am here to help.

Some are addicted to World of Warcraft. Whats not to understand?

Addiction is where you spend most of your day thinking about something and having a yearning/crave to do it. Mentally or physically.
Maybe its crack or maybe its sticking a wooden broom stick up your a55, either way, if you enjoy it, think about it every day or must do it to make it the next day...then congrats, you have an addiction.

Just because you can or "think" you can quit whenever you want does not mean you are not addicted cause if you still think about it, daydream about it or even do it as a once a month ritual..then congrats, your still a f**** addict.
If you never think about it and do something as a last minute random decision, then theres no craving, no dependance....congrats your not addicted

stop jerking off. if you can acomplish that, stop posting. were all majorly fuckin proud of you d00d :awe:

Jerking off is as healthy as running, eating, and drinking. Its not bad. And its not something to be ashamed and you damn sure dont need to quit it to be a better person.

For me: Sugar and caffeine. 10 times more addicting than crack or heroin.
I got over the caffeine last year. Sugar is still my goddess. Starch is a tough bitch too. I loves me my mashed potatoes.

i'd liek to see you drink alcohol, smoke cigarrettes, meth, and pain killers every day for a month straight and prove you stopped all of those on day 31.

Hmm, not sure, the first part of his life smoking was probably cool and everyone did it, and there was no health risk.
My mom and dad both smoked and both tried to quit several times. My dad was an alcoholic for 40 some odd years. He gave that up but never the cigs, he just scaled back to the weakest ones. All the drinking and smoking had done the damage though. His heart was ruined.

Thanks man. I miss him and my mom both. Christmas was a bitch.
My dad has been gone for 21 years now. He died way too young at 63.

I quit drinking 2 years after he was gone. Took me a while to wake up I guess.

I could probably say seeing my mom smoke and crave them has deterred me from making it a habit, but I have smoked and whatnot, just never got into it or something.

I couldn't imagine your pain :(

Then you just don't have an addictive personality. You'll find that people who are addicted to one thing likely have addictions to other things. I truly believe the ability to become addicted to something is genetic, or at least the tendency is there.
