I think this is a gross overreaction, and not bullying. If giving the student disgusted looks is the most egregious thing, according to the article, that the teacher did... I'd say at most the student should've talked to the teacher's boss about it. All this bullying/protest nonsense is just going overboard about it, IMO.
About two dozen protesters waved signs outside the Catholic school board Friday in support of a gay student who says she was bullied by a teacher.
Brooke Mulligan, 18, has alleged a religion teacher at St. Thomas of Villanova mistreated her because of her sexual orientation. She was at the protest Friday, along with her mother Tina Dagenais and sister Ashley Mulligan.
Im extremely angry with how a teacher can treat a student, said Ashley. I am extremely protective over both my little sisters, and it sucks that I cant do anything. This is the best that I can do, is stand up for her, and be here and protest.
A story about Mulligans alleged harassment first ran on the Toronto-based gay rights website Xtra late last month. The story has since exploded on social media.
The Windsor Essex Catholic District School Board has denied the allegations.
The protesters stood along Huron Church Road, outside the board office, waving signs with messages that included Love Not Bigotry and Gay Rights are Human Rights.
Mulligan said that all the support she received since news broke of the alleged bullying has given her strength to stand up for herself. She said she was there Friday to stand up against bullying, after being a victim of it from other students, former friends and her teacher.
Now Im strong, Im not going to let anyone bring me down, she said.
She said the bullying included talking about homosexuals in class, giving her disgusted looks, and telling the class that homosexuals cant get married.
Mulligan it wasnt until she came out that the teacher started picking on her. She said she filed a complaint to the school board.
