I don't think I know what I'm doing

Ask me anything about a Abit NF7-S and overclocking and I can rattle anything off. This new A64 setup is cusfusing me. I read a good bit but I need some advice.

Setup:
Epox 9NPA+ Ultra
A64 3000+ Winchester
Geil PC3200
ATI X850XT

I was trying to get as close to 2.6 GHz with out stressing my memory. I know my memory was memtest86 stable at 215 mhz in the NF7. So I wanted to get as close to that as I could.

So I set the HTT @ 325, memory divider @ 133, and HT multi @ 3. It's been running that way for about an hour with no hiccups yet. I haven't tried prime or 3dmark yet.

I don't know if these are good settings or not. HTT @ 325 seems extreme.

for a winchester thats good, on 1.6v i could only get 2.55 stable with a 3500, and 2.5 with 1.5v

I did read that. That's why I can't beileve my board can do 325. I think it could go higher.

Besides, it was a joke, ok?

325 *IS* extreme. Hell, 300Mhz is considered outstanding.

You got an impresive overclock there, and you should be happy about it.

I would personaly lower the voltage and the HTT to 300.

50% more speed is more than plenty.

I wouldn't go to 1.6 volts as I feel that without some really hefty cooling, the lifetime of the processor will be shortened severly. I consider 1.5 safe . Anyways, if you really want to have the bragging rights of a 2.6 processor, go for it. But IMO there is very little difference in terms of actual performance, and shotting for the stars may get you shortchanged in terms of processor lifetime.

I did get a SP-90 with a 92mm fan. It's not really for bragging rights.

Anyway, after following Zebo's guide part way through, I was able to get the HTT to 332 before the system would not boot into windows.

The CPU isn't prime stable over 2.52 Ghz with the voltage knocked back down to 1.5. I haven't got the the memory part yet. I guess I'll keep testing to find the sweet spot.
