I don't think field goals should be used to decide a game in OT

It's cheap and easy for both teams, so I don't see a problem here (unless you are a fan and like more action).
 
College OT = amazing.

2003 Fiesta Bowl = most nail biting game ever.

And there was a game last year....Arkansas? that went into 3 or 4 OT....was fun to watch. NFL OT bores me.

Exactly. I don't watch/follow college, but I remember that U of M game a few years ago that went into triple or quadruple overtime. I was on the edge of my seat for hours!

 
I think they don't want to switch over to the college rules because the NFL thinks it will look bad if they are adopting "a lesser league" rule.

It's similar to the BCS. Anyone who remotely enjoys college football agrees that a playoff + bowls works best, but the powers that be refuse to cave in and admit the flaws of the BCS.

What if we started an internet campaign to try to change this (the NFL at least)? Would it have any chance of changing their mind if a couple million people were on board?

I don't think the NFL can top Boise State vs. Oklahoma
 
I always thought the person that won the toss, they score then the other team had a chance to score. Maybe I'm thinking baseball..

Nope, in the NFL, if you score you win, game over.

In college, you get a chance, then the other team gets a chance.

It's so much more fun.

Only two NFL games have ever ended in overtime with a safety: In 1989 when the Minnesota Vikings defeated the Los Angeles Rams 23-21 when Mike Merriweather blocked a punt into the end zone, in 2004 when the Chicago Bears defeated the Tennessee Titans 19-17 when Billy Volek fumbled in his own end zone and a teammate recovered it but was unable to get out of the end zone. A 1989 pre-season game also ended in an overtime safety.

Very interesting. So in college rules, would a safety decide the game? The offense had their chance, lost the ball, the defense scored....right?

What it will take is a high profile game to get people talking--probably a Super Bowl decided in OT. Then people will start writing about it and we might see results. As a Seahawks fan I can attest to this, instant replay was talked about for years as an obvious solution to officiating problems. Sure enough when Testaverde's dive was ruled a touchdown even though he was obviously short, costing the Seahawks a spot in the AFC Championship game, enough of an uproar was created that instant replay was adopted the next season.

It's not that cheap. Think about it. The Bears got saved by that pass interference call. It doesn't usually end in the 1st possession (I can't back this up with any stats - just my gut feeling). 😛

My beef with the college system is how they have the teams start from the 25 yard line. Teams start in FG range and are pretty much guaranteed 3 points.

Exactly. That is why the point is to score a touchdown. It has basically created a scenario where you are down by 4, you've driven down to the red zone (almost), and need a TD. What better scenario to see who is the better team?
