The tabbed browsing just takes up space in the browser window. I have a task bar for a reason. Web pages load slower than in IE6. I don't like that if you click on a link in a page that is loading, Firefox doesn't do anything. It wont let you open the new link until the page has finished loading (or you rirht click -> open in new window). Images load a lot less quickly than in IE6. I also don't like the menu bar. Even when I have everything moved up to the same line as File/Edit, etc, it's about 5-10 pixels wider than in IE. (thats a little thing, but I find it annoying)
 
I have trouble with it hard crashing my work computer. After about 20-30 minutes of browsing my computer shuts down hard. For that reason I haven't installed it at home. I like the look and feel and enjoy the tabbed browsing, but cannot use it as my primary browser.
Might just be my computer at work, but it's got a fresh OS install and nothing else crashes it but firefox.
 
tabbed browsing is great if you run a lot of things at the same time and don't want browser windows to increase the taskbar clutter.

though i agree with the loading page thing. i have to press stop to stop the loading before clicking have an effect, very very annoying behaviour.

but it's still a great browser. i don't have an issue with speed after i upgraded. i use it almost exclusively now
 
I guess it is just preference. Personally, I <3 Firefox. Then agian, I don't have the same problems as you, and I love the tabbing option when browsing a large number of pages.
 
I love FIrefox, runs great. I was sick of all that spyware stuff and ie changing its homepage and stuff. So i got firefox. ONly problem is in AIM, when i click on link in a message, the webpage loads in Firefox, but a FireFox error message comes up stating it cant load, but it did. Whetevr i dont mind it.
 
Yeah, I have had problems with it too, but I haven't really put any time into learning it yet. I still do the IE thing because of familiarity.
 
I don't see what's the big deal either with Firefox (tabbing is GREAT though, When the hell is IE going to get that)... i have it loaded, and use it sometimes, but rarely. I just got sick of going to site after site that wouldn't load properly on Firefox.

As for IE getting spyware and such... i've NEVER in my 8 years of being online, been infected by spyware (due to sites) or had my homepage changed. Why? Because when a site asks me to install something, I DON'T.

I don't see the big deal either, but whatever. Personal preference. My guess is that IE will get tabbed browsing in version 7 (ie with Longhorn). I don't like tabbed browsing either.

If you go to sites that are reputable you will never get any kind of drive by spyware either. I have never gotten any spyware via my browser either.

I've been using Phoenix/Firebird/Firefox for over a year now, but I actually find that interacting with IE is much more graceful (not considering things like mouse gestures). I really like the flexibility of the coolbars and the integration with Windows Explorer.
 
My taskbar is only so big. When I get 30 IE windows open at the same time, it's tough to find the one I'm looking for. Unless I bump the taskbar up another two or three rows (it's already 3x the hight of the standard taskbar).

If you don't like it, you don't like it, who cares? But noone's forcing you to install it, like MS does with IE. Frankly you couldn't pay me to use IE for more than the 1 internal site I need to use at work.

Funny, I'm forced to use IE via Citrix since I don't manage those boxes at work and after like a week of having the Citrix box up and me using it sparingly I got an email from the admin saying that the virus scanner had caught some stupid java-script virus thing in my cache. I have no idea where it came from and I don't even browse often on that box, but somehow I hit a page that tried to hijack my browser.

I don't see how people browse without tabs these days. I love being able to middle-click on all the links on a page that I want to read and have them load in the background. And I also love Galeon's crash recovery/tab session support, when I start Galeon up it asks me if I want to restore the last tab session and boom all the same sites I had open when I killed it are open again.

Hell, i don't even install the Gamespy/Fileplanet autodownloader... luckily with them, it's not absolutely essential (so i have no idea why they ask you to download that). Just don't install crap and you won't have any problems.
 
I have firefox with the ieview extension... I use firefox for everything except my work timereporting.... the java makes firefox 😕
 
Firefox is not immune to spyware but I like it. Still use IE most of the time. Firefox 0.9 release candidate is working great for me.

Firefox is immune to most of them because it doesn't automatically install things, it doesn't support ActiveX, you can restrict what javascript can do and you can have it prompt you before it saves any cookies.

i highly suggest you run ad-aware. your computer is probably loaded with spyware right now. 😉 just because bonzi-buddy isn't jumping up and down on your desktop doesn't mean you don't have spyware.

dude, so you don't like it. good for you. don't use it then.

Overall I think Firefox is far superior to IE. I'll never go back, unless some crazy web site requires IE....
