WinXP
I recently acquired a Dell Lattitude lappy (my first lappy), it came with WinXP, I dislike this OS very much, very hard to get online (Cable), hard to configure, difficult to change settings etc, etc, etc.

How long did it take you guys and gals to become accustomed to this newest pile of crap from Macrohard ?

PS. How do i access the firewall settings ? Bah Humbug

Pro or Home?

Do not use the networking wizard on either one of them.

To access the firewall, right click on my network places. Choose properties. Right click on local area connection, choose properties. Select the advanced tab. Turn that POS firewall off and install a real one.

If he installed a real firewall, it wouldn't be that one. 😛

Actually, I've heard the built in FW is pretty good if you take the time to configure it correctly, though I've never tried.

The OS isn't bad. They just put another layer or two between the user and anything you want to access. 😉

Once you get used to it, it's not too bad.

My experience with XP is negative. It's an unstable piece of crap compared to Win2k, at least it was for two of the three different computers I've used it on. I'm using it now and it's decent enough, but win2k was not broken in my opinion, so XP is unnecessary.

Let me complete your sentance...

"I don't like Windows XP because I don't know how to use it."

I agree, XP rocks. It's stable, it's functional, and many things in it are automated. Installing a cable modem should have involved nothing more than plugging the modem into the network card. If the card's MAC address is entered with your cable provider, you'll get access.

Turn off the firewall by going to Start/Connect To:/Show All connections. Right click on the LAN connection, select Properties. Click the Advanced tab. Your ICF settings are here.

It was easy enough. Yeah I had to look for a few things but for the most part it's just as easy as any other OS.

I agree... I've used it and actually returned my machines to 2k. Just don't like it. 🙁

Windows 2000 4ever!

XP isn't too bad, but the layers of naive-user handholding goop they've ladled on top of clean W2K can get annoying.

Sounds like you're contradicting yourself there... 😉
