I don't know what to do in life?!

tried that. started 2 businesses. both failed.

I liked being my own boss.

what i didnt enjoy was all the paperwork and monthly filings that went with doing a business.

so besides not liking corporate, i'm also not an Entrepreneur

Look man, I felt the same way. You see, what I realized, it's not only about what you do. It's about how you do it. If you can be good at something, you'll like it. Can you call yourself a pro in your job, whatever it is? Have you mastered it? I think right now you got a loser's mentality. You start things, they fail. Need I say more? Make them happen, man, don't let them and you fail!

From this THREAD about making the most of your life.

My background:
Single, have a Mazda3, only debt is my house, late 20's and a computer geek making $70k.

But i'm not happy. It's like i'm working to live, and not live by working. Corporate isn't me.

I would go down to a $15/hr job (plus benefits) if it's more fulfulling.

Recently, I went thru a job book that described 300 job titles that covered 90% of American jobs. and nothing interested me. From CEO to chef, from lawyer to teacher's aid.

I like to help people. I also do not think anyone should decide between heat and food. (those people that complain they have no $, but yet won't give up cable TV should die.)

What I do to relax is play multi-player games, and find bargains (ie: Hot Deals forums).

Should i pay for professional job counceling to figure out what I want to do?

Anyway, Recommendations/guidance?

Go back to school for a graduate degree.

why not get a higher education? take the gmat and go for an MBA.

I've been a proj mgr. it also wasnt a job that i had a passion for

if you want to do something interesting while making chicken feed, the science field is for you.

phd's in my school (columbia) start at $35k. that is quite pathetic since you pretty much put your life on it. but then again i've seen a lot of people who are passionate about science.

It's hard for me to give you advice since I have not reached that point in my life yet (still in last year of school). It sounds as though you have a lot figured out in life (more then most people) and if a career move is what you need, I say go with your gut, but be realistic about it at the same time. Really find out what you want to do, best ways are by just doing volunteer work and orientations at places. You say you would like to help people, and there's plenty of occupations that do just that (I'm in the field myself).

Sometimes I feel like making big moves myself, quitting school, truck driving for 6 months a year straight, and travelling/partying the other 6. But not yet, must finish school first, parents won't be happy if I don't.

My dream job though: Mailman...walk around all day (get your cardio/exercise in), government job (awesome benefits), 20 bucks start, uniforms. After 5 years they promote you and you get to drive one of those cool mini trucks, with steering wheels on each side 🙂 ohh the ownage 🙂

Well, I don't know you well enough to give any advice. I say get a book called "What Color is your Parachute" and read it and see what you think. It is a pretty good book filled with psychology for those wondering what they should do after being in the workforce. It deals with stuff like being burned out and other things. It has been a very good seller and has helped me in the past. I gave my copy to a friend who was going through what you are going through now.

Here is a couple of questions that you might want to think about...
What did you like doing in your childhood, or what do you like doing as a hobby?
Is it something you can turn into a living?

You want fulfilling? Go join the Red Cross, and go help those people in New Orleans or Mississippi. The pay will suck though.

There was an interesting article in this month's Men's Journal about dream jobs and how to get into them. I remember one was even a private island broker. lol

I'm in the same situation. But i'm 27, working at a temp agency for $10 an hour, and getting further in debt with no house or nice car.
