Is this a normal Mhash/s rating for bitcoining with an overclocked HD 7970? I'm lost.

It's on the low side. Put this extra flag in.

-w 256 -f1

Make sure PowerTune is at +20% in CCC/MSI Afterburner.

You should be getting 710-720 Mhash.

Thanks. I've decided to let my 7970 run at 1125MHz for bitmining due to better temps. With the flag you gave me, it gets 605 Mhash/s. How many bitcoins will I get a within a month's time if I ran this the majority ( 18/24hrs ) of the day?

I've seen ±10% variation in MHash/Sec (among other issues/nonissues) using different versions of GUIMiner. I'd try a couple different ones as an experiment too.

What do those particular flags do?

The first 2 speed up GPU performance. The -f# flag tells the system the level of priority to assign to GUIMiner. The higher the #, the lower the priority. So -f0 is highest, -f15 means if you are doing something else on a system like watching 1080P movies, etc. it doesn't start chugging if you have a slow CPU and H.264/HDTV content can be sped up via GPU acceleration.
