i just wanted to know if the access point and the wireless pc card or usb adapter needs to be the same brand...

so can i buy a netgear wireless router and use a lynksys pcmcia card?

thanks!

All 802.11b network equipment is interconnectable, so you would be able to use the netgear router with the linksys card fine 🙂

Ya just make sure they say 802.11 and your good to go. Only thing that then seperates em is quaility and range.

Negative. 802.11 has many standards, and not all are backwards compatible.

there are so many deals going on right now....but it will all be mix and match. hopefully i will get lucky with a set. thanks again!

you guys are horrible 😛

All 802.11b devices should be compatible no matter what their brand is, but only should!
I've had problems establishing connection between Linksys AP and Planet AP, but when using the same setup with to Linksys access points everything worked just fine. So I suggest that you use equipment of one brand to avoid possible problems.

And don't forget to check that all the equipment uses 802.11b standart, not 802.11a or other...

Wireless bridging is not within the 802.11b spec (at least original spec) therefore when connecting a wireless bridge that is a diffrent story and often manufactuers develop their own system, which is not compatable with others.
