I've known Dubai ever since I was a kid since my roots go back to Pakistan. I can tell you that while the construction boom occurred recently, that place was always considered as a 'free port' where you could purchase goods for lower prices than anywhere else. That place always used to be a great area to buy automobiles and just about anything since there was no tax there. People used to go work there since the wages were fantastic. I frankly think that they should have started this boom a long time ago but better late than never. We'll see how this pans out for them. So far things look promising.
