I always see warning stickers on steps that say "Watch your step". What is the point of putting the sticker on the step? If you're looking at the step you're obviously already watching you're step so the sticker isn't needed. If you arent watching your step you wont be able to read the sticker anyways so again it isnt needed.

Am I missing something?

Those stickers probably exist just as a statutory disclaimer stating the obvious. You know, like the cancer warnings on cigarette packets.
