I don't get it: Why would anyone buy a tablet, and not a laptop?

A tablet is not a laptop replacement if you do work on your laptop. However everything I was doing on mine, I can do on the iPad2 with much more enjoyment. Read the web, read books, play games - the iPad2 is very light, doesn't get hot, makes no sounds, lasts for what feels like an eternity and is always ready (unlock, launch, use - that's 3 seconds flat)... There's no comparison for my usage scenarios.

Plus good luck trying to get a semi-decent laptop for under 1k$ (or 1k€ in EU). I paid ~600€ for my iPad2.

Yeah like I said theres some situations where a tablet is more comfortable to use. Thing is though that a laptop can still do those things, abet not as ergonomically.

cuz I don't need a desktop or a laptop to whore ATOT, check my email, etc...

So your desktop being more powerful than a laptop is completely irrelevant to everything in this thread then, even the points that you have brought up?

Yep. For doing any work, a laptop is the better choice. Some nice ultrabooks hitting the market now 🙂 They are more expensive though... Also, let's also see how the ASUS Transformer Prime with the keyboard dock fares - with ICS it could very well be a good alternative with the ergonomics of a tablet and keyboard for more productive things when needed.

You just answered the question. iPad = comfortable. Laptop = not as comfortable.

In fact, at home I'd say 90% of my "computer" usage is on my iPad. E.g., I'll watch the game and have the iPad on for fantasy football. If I want to change lineup I'll do it on my desktop.

When I wake up I reach over to iPad on nightstand and instant on check email and stocks. No need to get a laptop, open the screen, cursor my way to browser, open email, while tapping away at the keyboard and waking my wife, etc.

Keeps my 3 year old busy while he watches Power Ranger videos on youtube by tapping on history or related videos.

And you kind of made my point for me.

Theres definitely times when its more comfortable to use a tablet, but theres things that you always have to go back to a regular computer for.

Theres not many things you have to use a tablet for.
