I don't even know why USPS bothers with tracking.

They never update it. Is it because it just goes straight to me without making any stops even from the other side of the country?

Your item was processed and left our CITY OF INDUSTRY, CA 91715 facility on January 9, 2009. Information, if available, is updated every evening. Please check again later.

mine usually gets updated just fine...and lets say they didn't update in route, it would still be helpful to confirm delivery, as it is called DELIVERY CONFIRMATION, not tracking

Better than what mine says:

Status: Electronic Shipping Info Received

The U.S. Postal Service was electronically notified by the shipper on January 8, 2009 to expect your package for mailing. This does not indicate receipt by the USPS or the actual mailing date. Delivery status information will be provided if / when available. Information, if available, is updated every evening. Please check again later.

The shipper says they shipped it which is quite funny.

Sometimes this means that the they've printed and paid for the shipping label, but it's not been scanned yet.

I wish Tower.com had sent me some numbers for my recent order(Dec. 29) using their free shipping. Even if it was only delivery confirmation, I would at least know if/when the packages were possibly shipped. Since I have yet to receive anything other than a few "we shipped it" emails that contain no shipping details at all other than the order number. Tower.com won't even answer emails and have so far ignored any attempts at communication on my part. So I am stuck in "I wonder if I am ever going to get my stuff" limbo for at least two more weeks. :disgust:

Wait wat?

when you go to the post office, you can pay some extra cents and get DELIVERY CONFIRMATION, and the person gives you a #. You use that # on the track/confirm part of the USPS site in order to track it / see that it has been delivered.

The reason why it says Track is because USPS Express Mail(expensive) has actual Tracking that is similar to what UPS and FedEx has.

I also discovered you can enter Certified Mail numbers into the Track & Confirm box and it will give results similar to what Delivery Confirmation does.

It is sold as delivery confirmation. If you are lucky you'll get a daily update of where it is but that's it. If you really want to track a shipment get either Fedex or UPS.

Exactly. I cringe everytime someone uses the terms "USPS" and "tracking" in the same sentence. USPS does not provide tracking in the traditional sense ... it has never worked for me.

If you want to ship a "trackable" package then use UPS or Fedex.

I say this even though I use USPS 99% of the time. I just do not expect tracking ...

I think express mail has actual tracking available. The rest of it just offers confirmation.

USPS is worthless in this regard. The few things that do get shipped with USPS typically show up on their tracking page after I get the item 3-5 business days later.

I chalk it upto to being a quasi govt organization. Like anything govt, nobody cares.

Is it me or is their tracking page down? I can't see any tracked package info, the site is down or something

Yes. It isn't working for me eather....

But whenever someone sends a package to me or I send one out, I use priority or parcel post and they update it every stop it takes. I don't know about you guys. I love USPS and it's so much cheaper than UPS and FedEx.

I don't know about the service you're using, but when I ship USPS it always says that it's just to provide delivery confirmation.

I had an amazon order say that- I actually received the package and it still said the same thing. 😕
