First I must say I like ios and android. I have owned both, I even have a mac and two ipod touches in my house and currently have an htc hero and a blackberry. I to a Samsung Focus on a trade a week ago and man this phone is beautiful and the os is awesome! I have to say it is so sleek and my favorite phone os by far. As far as I understand win mo 7 is the same experience across all devices, I think that is a good thing. If you have not tried out a win mo 7 device, you should!

I take it you haven't been affected by the "phantom" data bug then? I can't imagine people being too happy with WinMo 7 if it's charging them extra on data plan overages.

You mean Windows Phone 7, right? Pssh, MS dropped the mobile moniker with this release!

It looks nice. When they get multitasking on board I will give it a look, until then it's an also ran. I can live without copy and paste but multitasking is a must have.

Until Microsoft works out the bugs in the "new" Windows Mobile platform, I'm not eager to run out and sign a two-year contract to own a device loaded with it.

I like WinMoPho thus far, but is anyone else having the marketplace update bug?

And my data usage is less than half my 2GB allotment, so I really don't care if there is a little leakage at this point.

It's a different take. They should get a lot of props for the gutsy move that they did. Will it succeed? Maybe. Will it be the top 2? Doubtful. That doesn't mean it's a bad product.

After a service pack or two I may agree.
Not yet though, new platforms are always more hassle than they are worth.

I like it as a phone.... But it's a bit boring. My old WM 6.5 phone had so many things that you could just get lost in playing\tinkering with, and Android phones are the same way. Conversely, WM7 seems fairly rigid and un-customizable. In particular, the lack of custom ringtones irritates me. Also the lack of cut and paste. And some of the app load times are ridiculous.

I haven't had any problem with data. I'm 1 day away from the end of my billing cycle and I've only used 200mb out of 2gb.

Sprint is falling so far behind. :(
I am hanging on with my HTC Hero - almost bit the bullet today by getting an Evo, but I chickened out at the end.

Please Sprint - do something.:'(

iPhone and Android are too big to catch now with Microsoft so late to the game but it is definitely intriguing and great to have another competitor on the block which only benefits us consumers.

The tiles are the worst system i can think off for notifications, scroll up and down to see all your stuff, who wants that?
Yes the smoothness of the OS is awesome but hell the phone looks dull, like some UI designed for a 10 yr old.

What???

The live tile widgets are the best feature of any mobile device. I don't understand what you're talking about.

Microsoft so late to the game

It's truly sad to see virtually nothing from Microsoft year after year after year, watching all this time the amazing developments in this market, watching Apple build up such a huge ass lead over them.

And now finally, the end result of all these years of waiting?

Kin and WP7... wow.

:(

Its because MS didn't start WP7 development until after the release of the 1G iPhone, that is my theory anyway. If you think about it, MS was dominant with their WinMo 6.5 OS, they didn't have a reason to innovate. Steve Ballmer went so far as to say that the iPhone will not sell very well.

I believe RIM is also in the same situation, which is why BB users are still stuck with an outdated OS.

Google chose to innovate and as well as Apple with their iOS. Now look at the market, Android and iOS are the ones that are creating waves in the mobile space while everyone else is playing catch up from years of sleeping.

WP7 wasn't built to compete with Android, period. It's taken a complete 180 from where WM6.5 was and is designed to compete with iOS. There's a counterpart to everything Apple has, except hardware exclusivity. I think that's where it's strength lies. This allows it to spread to all carriers, and on a multitude of devices. With the hardware restrictions in place, performance should be similar across all devices. You have a desktop music/app management that is superior to iTunes (at least on Windows machines) and has Zune Pass. You have an established game client base that takes considerable interest in the phone as a mobile game platform, along with social integration that no one else can compete with. On top of that, include the Exchange integration that can be done because it's MS, and you have serious potential.

But it's just that - potential. MS needed to get the phone out, and what most of us early adopters have is something stuck between iOS and well, jack shit. Except I have better hardware, and what I feel is a better base OS. Yes, some features are missing - but MS has said they are coming, and we've seen video proof. It'll take time, but we'll see things come out just like we did for iOS and Android.

I seriously got the itch to switch to WP7. Just hoping to hold out a little longer maybe for 2nd gen devices and the marketplace to build up a little.

The problem with the tiles and that interface is when you have a bunch of apps it becomes very hard to scroll to access all of them.

I agree here. I think that you can make the tiles go on for a long time, but either way it seems that your choices are large, live updating tiles, or small, boring icons. You are scrolling from top to bottom regardless.

I can understand their desire to get rid of the pages of icons from iOS/Android, but maybe something like user created hubs would work.

Square tile widgets being your "homescreen" is the suck. But then, Im someone who likes a nice GUI, bells and whistles, and graphics. So YMMV :)
