You guys who say that you haven't bought a CD in years because it is total crap.... well... there is a reason for that. It's called music trends! I'm sorry that there aren't anymore New Kids on the Block, Whitesnake, or Paula Abdul type groups... just get over it.
Music changes... so get a new taste in music and buy some CDs. D@mn... You'd think you guys would have figured it out by now.
Yeah, I loved the old Metallica, the old Led Zeppelin, the old Beatles.... but they are gone!
Now I listen to stuff like System of a Down, New Metallica, Dave Mathews stuff like that...
Moral of the story: Stop using the "There isn't anything good" excuse to pirate the new "crappy" music.
I don't pirate music. My music comes primarily from live recordings downloaded through services that have the full support of the musicians. Mostly I am into Jazz/Blues-rock, so artists like Big Wu, Ekoostic Hookah, Bockman's Euphio, adn their ilk allow me my fix through live recordings. I pay them back by going to their shows whenever they are in town and buying any studio albums they produce provided I like the songlist on them.
Other artists of mine . . Flecktones, Phish, and, to a lesser extent, Moe. do have studio/professionally recorded albums, and If i like an album I will buy it, but I will still download their music from the internet, primarily live songs, to supplement my collection.
I am a bit safer with all this because most of my bands support file sharing . . mostly to spread awareness because most of their money comes from shows, anyway. Take the local saint Louis Bockman's Euphio, for example. A few years ago a friend and I were the only people at one of their shows until 45 minutes after the music got going. Now, they can fill mississippi nights without much trouble . . . primarily because, thanks to file sharing, awareness has spread very rapidly.
And besides, your argument makes no sense and this is a worthless post. People who don't buy music because music is crap won't turn around and download the same music that they consider to be crap. If someone uses that excuse (ie: I don't buy big-lable CD's because big-label companies produce mostly crap) then the CD's they would buy are either not available in their area (only place to get albums from, say, Bockman's is by going to a concert and buying one there) or not in existance.
So, um, what I am really trying to say is go back to school and try to pass the third grade.
